Appearance:
Standing at a surprisingly short 5'2", Emilio's slim figure and delicate face give him the appearance of a waif. The fact that he wears his dark brown hair down to his shoulders with long bangs and side-bangs to frame his dark green eyes only makes him look younger. From Emilio's Peruvian mother, he has inherited her tanned complexion, though he is somewhat paler from lack of sunlight.

Outside of his school uniform, Emilio wears hoodies and baggy pants in muted primary colors. His favorite pair of white-and-red sneakers contrasts with the more somber hues of his other clothes.

Personality:
The Hirasawa household has a number of pictures from when Emilio was younger, from riding his first bicycle to his first birthday party. In almost all of them, he was smiling and laughing and quite active.

The teenager that boy grew up to be is a far different person. Since his first fainting spell and the battery of tests that came with it, Emilio has become a solemn, quiet boy that shows little to no emotion. This calm facade hides a raging whirlwind of fear and anger: living for years with one's survival perpetually in jeopardy have left its mark. Occasionally, Emilio lets this tempest of emotions out, though he strives to control himself lest his heart give out. Instead, he uses sarcasm and barbed insults to vent his spleen on whoever crossed him.

—Description: Since Emilio was seven years old, he's had to deal with Romano-Ward syndrome, a hereditary disease that disrupts the heart's normal rhythm, causing palpitations, loss of consciousness, and potentially death. To manage this, he has been taking beta blocker medications, and his parents have planned for him to get a permanent pacemaker.
