Trial By Fire

Breathe in... Breathe Out...

Cyril stared down the range with the scope of his Sniper Rifle. "Any sign of him yet, Cy?" Amalie's question broke the silence. The two had been stuck on that rooftop for what felt like at least 4 hours. "No. Not yet." He replied dryly with a soft shake of his head, before looking through the scope again, focusing his gaze on a large building a few blocks away. "Shouldn't he be outside by now? Think something went wrong?" Amalie squinted at the front entrance. "Lets hope not. Krim trusted Chaude to handle this. Have faith. He'll make it out."

Cyril was a rather tall man. He had short, messy, black hair and a strikingly blue eye. The other was hidden behind black eyepatch. He wore only a dirty, ripped up pair of jeans, and a belt of ammunition hung over his shoulder. Aside from that, he remained topless. Next to him rested two gas masks. This high up, they didn't have to worry much about the spores, thankfully, but they'd need to wear them once the time came to leave. Chaude had the third. "Come on, Chaude..." Amalie looked nervous, and rightfully so. Her older brother had been tasked with going inside the Old Halcyon Foundation building in Le Marais, alone, with only his Shadow Weapon to protect him. Though it was necessary. A trial by fire to earn Krim's approval. To become one of 'them'. "He'll make it out. I know Chaude. It takes a lot to bring him down. 'Bout as stubborn as they come."

"Hold on... I see movement." Cyril's eye narrowed at the front gate. Something was moving behind those glass doors. Was it a Demon? Or... something else? Chaude? From this far away, even with the magnification of this rather cheap looking rifle, it was difficult to make out any specifics. Had the room he was peering into been any brighter, that'd be a different story. Krim had insisted on this operation taking place during the night, though Cyril wasn't entirely sold on the idea. But he refused to argue against Krim's judgement. He hadn't been wrong before, and there was no reason for his judgement to be off today. "What do you see, Cy?" Amelia asked, sounding both excited and worried all at once. "Looks like one of Ulthar's shadows... a Sporeghast if I had to guess, but it's difficult to see. If this scope would've been any better." But they had to make due with what was available to them. Krim hadn't even told Cyril where he had found the rifle. It was better than nothing. Couldn't expect much after the world went to shit.

"Wait, there he is! I see him!" Amelie exclaimed, pointing towards one of the upper floors of the Tall Halcyon Foundation building. "There you are..." Cyril Smiled, aiming the sniper up towards him. Looked like he was being chased by a large shadow, clutching something in his hand. "Hah, he got the package. Lets help him out, shall we?" Cyril took a deep breath, and aimed towards the shadow, steadying his aim before pulling the trigger. A loud bang followed as Cyril fired the gun, kicking up a cloud of dust around him. "Missed."

He rechambered and took aim again. Another loud bang followed, a satisfied grin creasing Cyril's lips as he saw the bullet connect with the shadow, causing it to stagger from the impact. "Lets go meet him. Put on your mask. We need to hurry." Cyril stood up and slung the rifle over his back, before picking up his gas mask and dragged it over his face. Amelie did the same. They both ran down the staircases through the building they had been perched up on. The deadly, green spores clouded the air in a green mist, covering most of the ground below. In the distance, the entrance to the Halcyon Foundation building came into view. Soon, they had the package Krim had been asking for. Soon... another would enter the fold. Cyril was happy.
