| Maaaan, to be frank, on some days, Cryox almost questioned why he even took on jobs in the first place. Seriously, considering he lived in the Forest and could basically just search or hunt for food, and didn’t need to buy many things being a cat in appearance, what good was the money for? Hmm, perhaps he could save up for something cool though? Meh. Well, there was one good thing about work however. It could sometimes be extra fun that he wouldn’t get so easily anywhere else.
On this day, he was tasked with guarding some tacky dude’s garden while he was away on business. Apparently the guy’s dog who normally did the job got sick and had to stay at a vet for a couple days, so there was a need for a momentary replacement. It also seemed that somebody was quite paranoid about their small bunch of growing tomatoes being stolen. Would anyone really need to make the effort to steal a couple not even fully grown yet veggies? Like man, you can buy these pretty cheap anyway and have nothing to worry about. It’d take some desperate beggar to attempt this. Che. Well, worry warts like this man were one group of people that ensured that he had some chill jobs here and there, so Cryox would not complain too much in the end. It sounded like just another day to lay under the red sun and laze about for a while, pretty much getting money for doing nothing. Wasn’t that simply fantastic? What wouldn’t one give for such a job, right?
Althouuugh, it was a little boring to just sit around all day. So why not make it a bit more fun? The mischievous feline would plot for a while, trying to come up with an entertaining activity to participate in, his absentminded gaze eventually falling onto a rubber duck that was sitting besides the nearby sidewalk. Huh, did some kid accidentaly drop that while playing? Ooo, well that didn’t really matter, did it now? Pouncing over, the two-tailed cat would nab the toy, finding out that it was actually one of those squeaky toys that made funny sounds when you pressed or squeezed them. Perfect! He could totally use that to make the day more interesting.
Did you think he was going to just do the most obvious thing and play around with it? Well, think again. There was no doubt that Cryox had something way more amusing in mind, because really, it wouldn’t be fun without getting at least someone else involved.
The unfortunate victim of the feline’s boredom would soon turn out to be a cute poodle that appeared to be taking a nap on the other side of the fence he was currently guarding. Probably the neighbor’s pet, but that wasn’t a fact that interested Cryox the most. No, it was the knowledge that he had someone he could mess with, thus getting his past time activity quota filled. Making his way over to the fence, as close to the sleeping dog as he could, he would drop the toy down before pressing onto it with his front paws to make it squeak, repeating that a few times until the poor doggo woke up. And of course, he would keep doing that, amusing himself over the agitated pooch who started running around alongside the fence, barking at him, clearly not happy about being disturbed by highly annoying sounds. Too bad the fluffy white poodle was stuck on the other side, with the fence being too high to jump over. Ain’t no doggo winning the war today! Not that he was trying to stage a legit war anyway. Hmph. He was above being petty just because cats and dogs were supposedly enemies. He just wanted to have his fun.
And he certainly got a good chunk of it, eventually getting tired of abusing the rubber duck as he just rolled over onto his back, laughing at the poor canine for a bit. ''Teehee, have that!‘‘ Well, as cute as that was though, he could only ruffle the dog’s feathers for so long before it started getting repetitive. Which was certainly sad, because it was totally a very fun thing to do for as long as it lasted. Oh well. Cryox would soon move on, deciding to spend the remainder of his time climbing onto the roof of the house and making attempts at catching any birds that dared to land on it to rest. Darn it though! He didn’t manage to make a successful grab on either of them, but he sure got close a few times. Some birdies were going to be flying around Junction with a few of their feathers missing today. Whoops? Actually no, he wasn’t really sorry about that. Only a dumb bird would sit somewhere near a cat, so it was obviously the fault of those tiny avians for not being careful enough.
Well, he didn’t get any worthwhile catch for the day, but his employer of the day seemed satisfied about his garden still being safe when he returned later on the day, so he would still get his pay for the job, which meant it wasn’t a waste of time in the end. The horned feline would happily salute the man with his two tails, offering to come anytime he happened to be needed. Can’t pass a good opportunity for basically free jobs, that was obvious. No harm done by taking advantage of what was given, was there now? It wasn’t like he was scamming anyone if the person genuinely thought they needed to hire someone for a job that was technically rather obsolete in their situation.
Cryox would grin himself as he eventually took his leave of the place, already pondering what entertainment he could perhaps find on his way home. It’s never a bad time to have some innocent fun after all. Why would it be? Especially after a good day of work!
