Current Events
Updated: 20/07/2020

**ALERT!** After a rather eventful evening at Maksim's Party, three teenagers seems to have gone missing. The doors of Vault Olympia have been breached due to a to this day unknown assailant, who sabotaged the doors locking systems, allowing demons to make entry. Thanks to the excellent defensive capabilities of the Vault's Security drones, the Attack was put to an end, and the invading monsters fled to the outside. Right now, the Doors of Vault Olympia are currently open, allowing any survivors of the fall to seek shelter within the Vault's safe halls. What Vault Security officials think of this development remains unclear as the Chief of Police and Security of Olympia refused to leave a comment. This is Rianara, of Olympia news, signing out.

The site is entering a new era as our team of mods works tirelessly on updating old and obsolete information threads and links. Over the Summer, we aim to make many changes to the forum, including writing a comprehensive beginners' guide to help new players accommodate to the combat and other rp systems in place here.

Be sure to constantly check the update thread for any changes to the boards. You can find it ->Here<-

Ok guys. So basically a long time ago Rita proposed the idea of bringing up some site rules, I decided to follow it up, designed a few, showed them to some members of the site and to some staff and phile. People were aight with it.

Now there's a dispute over whether or not we should have rules [I appear to have lost my copy of the rules list, so If I can I'll search around archives and post it in here]. Given this has gone on for almost a year.

In this thread. Vote whether or not you would actually like rules implemented into the site as a minor guideline.

As far as arguments go, I’ll be putting my concerns towards the rules. Rules are helpful, yes, but keep in mind mods are just as capable of misusing and warping the rules to their own means. I’m not saying any of the current mods will do so, but rules give them a guideline to cohere too, and if they’re overly emotional one day, they may punish someone that doesn’t rightfully deserve it at the time. To go on further, future mods may simply abuse them for their own gain. While it may be the fault that an admin modding a person with these intentions, this may never come to fruit without rules. You can’t abuse something that doesn’t exist.

Another point is simply that rules as of right now can only really bring more immediate cons that pros. We have a very small community as of right now, and putting rules for the possibility the sight will grow and unrulier people will show up isn’t wise. Paranoia can lead to major downfalls, and this is a given fact. Aside from this, if people aren’t willing to listen to a mod or admin now, what makes rules any different? They don’t have to listen to either if they don’t want too.

Of course, take my thoughts with a grain of salt. My statements aren’t without fault, but I firmly agree with the point that rules aren’t needed now and should only be implemented when they’re needed as to avoid the immediate repercussions of them.

If we're worried about mods abusing their power and/or overstepping their boundaries then we should place down some guidelines so mods know those boundaries and so that members can more properly understand what is and isn't an abuse of power. Letting the mods deal out verdicts, punishments, and the sort based solely on subjective whims is a system far more abusable than abiding by a set of clearly-defined guidelines on what kind of behavior is wrong and how a staff member should respond to it.

Could there be loopholes? Yes. But it's not as if the rules are set in stone forever. If there's a problem with them then they can simply be adjusted.

A set of rules or a guideline would be helpful to both the staff and members.  I'm not sure why so many people are opposed to this, but oh well. I'll proudly play the role of contrarian.

That defeats the purpose of rules though. If we change them as soon as a loop hole is found, no one's going to take the rules seriously because of their need to change constantly. Unspoken rules are just as effective as ones laid out in stone, but with the advantage of them not being susceptible to loop holes. Plus, making it to where rules can't be abused would mean major restrictions on all aspects of the sight. Rules as effective as that tend to be chockingly restrictive and shouldn't be needed unless the sight direly needs them.

I highly doubt the rules are going to be so full of loopholes that we need to change them constantly over and over again. And if they are then all that means is that they're shitty rules.

If people refused to take the law seriously every time an individual law was changed then society would have met its downfall long ago. Why are rules any different? Aren't laws simply rules imposed by society?

As for unspoken rules being just as effective as regular rules, I'll have to disagree. If a rule goes unspoken then only those with prior knowledge of it would know of its existence. We aren't isolationists Lost. New members can and will end up joining this site. And they won't know of any of those unspoken rules when they do. So either someone has to hold their hand and walk them through every little thing or they just stumble around in the dark until they give up and abandon the site.

And yes, that is one of the glaring flaws in my defense. However, unspoken rules still have their place. Quite frankly, the unspoken rule we're majorly talking about is proper conduct, and quite frankly, proper conduct is something most people know about. If they do something that isn't proper, another member can simply say so and help them out.

We aren't void of rules, and quite frankly, the rules being implemented would all be just a code of conduct. Why put everyone's conduct too a set of rules when people are fine? Yes, there will be rude people but mods and other sight members know how to handle situations with rude people. Rules can only say "Don't do this or else you'll be punished." where as a mod, admin, or another person can easily help that person see what they're doing is inappropriate. Silent rules also bring people closer together in this nature. One person helped out newer person be nicer, the newer person feels more welcomed as a cause instead of the person saying "Don't do that. It's against the rules."

As members, we have the ability to help people stumbling when it comes to proper etiquette and RP rules such as meta gaming and other such things. Making these rules isn't necessary right now as the community is nice enough and wise enough to aid people in these issues.

Just saying guys, the best way to go about rules is to have them be exacts. Like say, someone being banned for trolling the site, and the ban can only be implemented if there are multiple witnesses or data of the trolling, and an approval of two-three mods for the ban, or something like that. Since there are more and more people and more and more mods I feel there has to be a set regulation of sorts, so, if we go for rules, go for SPECIFIC RULES. That is all.
