| It started when she was walking through the Commercial Ward, her eyes drifting around the structures that were her home. It was quite surprising how just a few levels up and the world began to flow in some form of order. Down in the slums everything was so confusing, but here she had landmarks to go by. It was odd really and made her wonder how such a transition could be. Walking towards an edge, she carefully leaned over the railing and look upward. If she went upward would the order continue or did it go back to chaos? She had to wonder and maybe that would’ve been the topic her brain focused on; however, a clump of black caught her attention causing her to blink as her eyes settled on the object.
There was a person….no a large bug attached to the side of Junction! Ugh. Where did a bug that size come from and why did it have to be where she was now? Shivering, Hyacinth thought to move away, but just as she was pushing her way away from the railing the bug shifted and lifted a white face with red eyes. The bug thing blinked sleepily at her before shifting again and with a quick pace closed the distance between herself and it. With a barely contained scream, Hyacinth hopped back as the bug thing got too close for comfort, its head poking down over the arch as its strange clawed hands gripped the end of it. It was watching her upside down….and she wasn’t sure if she liked that or not.
Trying to hold her ground, Hyacinth would stay where she was with her back straight and head held high…even if every hair on her body was standing on end and her tail was stiff. The bug thing would continue to watch her and in time begin to chuckle. Not liking that, Hyacinth folded down her ears and narrowed her eyes at the creature.
“Alright, bug. What do you want?” she would demand as the creature continued to watch her.
“Bug? Tsk, tsk. How rude. Devi is no bug. Devi is ink demon,” the creature would say in a semi-deep voice that was surprisingly pleasing to the ear. Hyacinth would blink.
“A-Alright, but that still doesn’t answer my question,” she said not wanting to apologize. He really did appear to be a bug.
The creature on the other hand shrugged. “Devi was just curious if you liked art. We saw you looking upward at Junction from such an odd angle that we couldn’t help but wonder if you were admiring the structure of this place.”
“I was wondering about its structure. Does it go up into chaos or does it flesh out into order at the top?” Hyacinth would respond back not seeing the harm in giving the other such information. To this the creature would grin.
“What a question!” it would say with a chuckle before settling down long enough to swing itself down to land well balanced on the rail. Watching the creature who stood tall and elegantly on the rail, Hyacinth found herself becoming less afraid of the creature and more intrigued as it continued to speak.
“We too are interested in such questions and much much more. Like what is Junction exactly? What makes it tick? What it makes it sick? So much we want to know and yet….we can only be in one space at one time. To make things sadder I have no one else interested in these things I know and thus cannot share my love for such things.” The creature would pout as he lowered his head with a shake.
Hyacinth was quiet for a moment as she looked to the side, thinking and then looking back other she would speak. “Why not share it with me then? I have such interest.”
As soon as the words were out of her mouth the bug thing perked up as it melted from the railing literally and then reappeared right in front of her. Before she could ac,t the creature had her hand in its own and was grinning.
“Oh. We would like that very much. We can share many, many things. In fact we have secrets,” the creature would say before hoping back a bit releasing her hand as it spun on one foot. Then doing an odd pose, the creature would hold out what looked like a flash drive.
“A map not yet deciphered and also a mystery not yet solved. Devi will give to you these things because Devi believes you will find ways to uncover these mysteries.”
He would hold out the flash drive to her. A bit hesitant, Hyacinth approached and took it, the creature’s grin spreading impossibly wider. She would narrow her eyes at the flash drive. “So…you want me to decipher the map to solve a mystery yet unsolved?” she would ask.
“No. Devi wants you to decipher the map and go to school. Go to school find more information about hidden libraries a professor told us about and also perhaps see if you can get into his protected library. Devi believe many secrets are there for Junction.”
“…Why don’t you do this all yourself?” Hyacinth asked not sure what to make of this.
“Because Devi go underground find secrets of the below. Secrets of things, perhaps find answers to things.”
“What are you talking about?” Hyacintha asked taking a step forward.
“Hmm. Devi time run out. Must go. Until next time, kitty-cat!”
“Tsk! My name is Hyacinth,” she would say stomping her foot.
“That is what we said. Hyacinth. Bye-bye.”
And with that the strange creature was gone.
Hyacinth would sigh a bit as she looked at the flash drive in her hand. Well, she supposed she could check it out to see what was all about. As for that whole school mystery thing. Well she wasn’t sure what to make of that, but she guessed that was something else to look into.
With a mysterious map, a strange request, and an even stranger creature to figure out, Hyacinth would wrap up her exploring for the day and head home. _____________________________________________________ > Gained Flashdrive with Map of Junction from awakening. > Gained information to continue the investigations of the school for Devi. | |
