Johnson watched as some creature swept down and grabbed Clark before carrying him off into the distance, the solider's eyes turned to see the demon speed away with a struggling figure in its talons. He could hear Clark's screams as he was carried away, and Johnson's eyes watched in horror as the creature flew higher and higher into the air until it was at the height of the parking garage, and then he saw the figure drop from the talons. He saw Clark flailing as he plummeted to the air like some rookie who didn't pack a chute when jumping from a plane, he fell and fell.
Johnson could swear that he heard the scream and the sound of breaking earth when he presumed the figure hit the solid street. He snapped back into reality as he felt a wet touch sliding down his arm, he looked down to see Darman's bloody hand sliding down his arm.
"Pull back! Gunvir! Pull back!" He said reaching for his sidearm and firing a few shots at a demon trying to cover Gunvir's escape.
The dark skinned man turned to go into a sprint, until a pincer like hand grappled around his waist. It was razor sharp, and it pinned the solider's arms to his sides,
"Sarge! Johnson! HELP!" Johnson rose his pistol and fired four shots into the creature's torso...to no effect. He didn't miss, not at this range, and the demon lifted Gunvir over its head before clamping another pincer like claw to his upper body. Johnson could only watch in horror as Gunvir screamed and squirmed...as he was torn into two pieces.
It was at this point that Johnson had no plan, but to get the hell out. Two of his best friends just died right before him, and he wasn't about to let the third one bleed out if there was anything he could do about it.
"Hang on Darman, I'm getting you out of here." He said turning on his heels as he adjusted Darman onto his back with haste and began to flee back toward the perimeter that he knew had been established. The man only got so far, before there was an explosion of fire in front of him, he felt a wave of heat wash over him and blow him off his feet. He then felt something strike him in the head, and the most intense pain he had ever felt in his entire career washed over him.
He had no idea what happened to Darman as he felt the pressure on his back leave him as he was blown away, he struck something hard and then everything went black for him.
Johnson awoke with an aching pain where a piece of shrapnel had embedded itself in his head, when he had been struck by that explosion five years ago. The man shook his head, as his phone rang. He looked at the number and frowned, he answered the call.
"Good Morning Mr. Locke, it's your weekly check in. How is the new prescription treating you?" A calm, logical voice inquired from the other end. The mercenary shook his head.
"You really have to ask? My answer is still the same, it doesn't fucking work!" He responded about ready to chuck the phone at the wall to vent his frustration.
"That is unfortunate, but we did tweak a few things around this time. It may just take some time for the effects to set in, we want to work this out together in order to be sure you're ready for the change in your life.""Really? I'd like to change my provider to someone else to be honest, because at least then I might get some sleep. But I don't have time for your shit this morning, I need to take a walk to get my mind off things." He said pressing t hang up button on his phone hearing only.
"Mark my words, time are cha-"
"Yeah sure...whatever you say buddy. You keep telling yourself that. He said to himself and his phone before tossing it on the bed and heading over to an open space in his apartment to start his daily regiment of 80 push-ups, among other exercises. Even though he didn't believe times are a changing he still needed to find himself something to do to keep himself distracted and preoccupied.
