Birth Day: 1st of January (Not really, since his kind doesn’t use a human calendar. He just likes the number 1)

Place of Residence:
Planet Calvern. A planet roughly half the size of Earth, with a climate mostly similar, the main distinction being a lower atmospheric pressure as well as a surprising lack of vegetation. Calvern used to be rather prosperous at a time in the past, however due to Shadow/Demon invasions in the area of space the planet resides, there were damages done to the structure of their galaxy, and Calvern ended up becoming permanently ravaged by unstable weather conditions, making it a near wasteland to live within the span of a couple years. The race Shin comes from was one of the few species from the planet that managed to adapt enough to continue living there, but it is by no means an easy existence at the current point in time.

Appearance:
Standing at a shorter height of 5’2”, Shintaro’s base build resembles that of a human despite not being one. He has pale skin, messy dirty blonde hair, and eyes of a color very similar to his hair. He has a fairly lean build, as he avoids getting too much bulk on him to keep himself in good shape for flight, although it’s not always obviously seen, given he seems to often be wearing loose and more baggy clothing, and just overall dressing without too much care about being formal. Occasionally he can be seen wearing random accessories such as bracelets and rings or chains for that streetboy look, though most often, he simply has his special goggles and noise cancelling headphones on him in case he needs to take to the air as he likes having the extra buffer against forces of nature that get in the way.
His most obvious inhuman feature is his large, reddish wings that extend from his back at all times. When stretched out, they are easily more than twice as long as he is tall, although unless he is flying, he keeps them bent closer to his back to avoid taking up way too much space. He seems to be able to pluck feathers from them fairly easily and have them grow back in surprisingly short amounts of time, and he’s known to use them as his soulbound weapon in battles.
Personality:
Shintaro is a somewhat strange man, at least to those who happen to know him. He appears to prefer observing from the distance most of the time, but can suddenly swing into chatter mode if he takes interest in someone or a situation, or has to go out there and play the social game. Despite how intelligent he is, people may not always immediately recognize him as such, due to his fairly lax and easygoing appearance, and a typical unwillingness to reveal too much in the moment. He appears to like going at his own pace, and becomes a lot more disagreeable with people who pressure him or get on his nerves.
Nevertheless, he is usually oddly friendly with most, sans his tendency to randomly speak in a way that makes people scratch their heads, or joking/being sarcastic with a complete deadpan. In a way, he might even come off somewhat socially awkward, in spite of knowing well just how to behave. He is a dedicated man however, and can be counted on to do his part of things, even if he may at times do it in questionable ways, or give off a confusing vibe. In fact, he has a surprisingly strong skill in hiding his emotions and acting completely serious and blank in high stress situations, to the point of making people wonder whether it was something he trained himself to do.

As a part of a race clearly accustomed to roaming the sky, Shin’s physique is a lot similar to what one would expect out of a bird, with wings that allow him to fly, as well as a body structure of hollower bones to make it easier for him to stay up in the air. Alongside that, the combination of his lighter weight and skillful usage of wings makes him naturally adept at quick movement, allowing him to be a surprisingly fast combatant. Thanks to his speedy responses, he has a 20% base chance of dodging enemy attacks, instead of 10%.

Not that he had ever bothered with taking any tests, but it is estimated that Shin’s IQ levels are somewhere in the 145+ area. He can be quite the genius at times, and is a fast learner even when it comes to more complex subjects and studies.

—Description:
Using his own feathers as his soulbound weapon is a great asset, as he is capable of easily using more than one at a time, without putting in a lot of effort. This only benefits him as long as he isn’t using new weapons granted by some of the Plugs however.

—Description:
When he wants to, Shin can be quite good at grabbing the attention, and getting the mood going. It seems to be fairly useful in battles as well, allowing him to energize his teammates with a lot more success.

—Description:
It would appear that his general movements are not the only quick part of him, and he is surprisingly good with his hands too. Honestly, it’s quite a random skill, but don’t be fooled, he is a very good cheat when playing cards, or can do tricks that rely on speed and sleight of hand very well.

—Description:
Perhaps it has to do with his own likeness to an animal species, but Shin seems to be good at attracting animals, and tends to get along with them fairly easily, even as far as having an easy time training them or just getting them to do things for them.

—Description:
Being smart doesn’t necessarily line up perfectly with being easily understood in daily chit-chats, and especially when combined with his overall personality, Shin can be a tough cookie to deal with at times. He doesn’t tend to bother dumbing himself down, and can spew comments that make others look at him like he just grew a second head. Sometimes it’s unplanned, sometimes he does it on purpose to amuse himself.

—Description:
Feathers aren’t the most durable material in the world, and what’s any bird when they’re suddenly unable to fly? Shin doesn’t tend to like open flames of any sort, as they can burn up his wings very fast, and while he can grow his feathers back, it’s still unpleasant and causes problems in the moment.
—Weakness Name: Brittle Bones (takes 10% more damage from Crits)
—Description:
A light, hollow-boned physique may be good for granting extra speed and general nimbleness, but it also unfortunately makes any hard blunt hits hurt that much more, and cause damage and splinters much easier.

—Description:
Known for often getting hyper focused on whatever has caught his interest, Shin can sometimes prove to be a pain in the butt, either not wanting to switch his focus of attention, or bother answering any questions about it others may have. He can occasionally be a teeny bit evasive and disinterested in giving away his detailed observations and ideas.

—Description:
Sleep issues are always trouble, and Shin appears to be suffering from random bouts of insomnia, which then causes him to doze off during awkward times instead, such as taking an unintended nap in the middle of a bar visit, or sleeping on a research job when he ought to be working.

The Background
|
History:
Due to the unfortunate conditions that ravaged Calvarn over time, the populations on the planet dropped to surprisingly low numbers even for the few species that managed to adapt and survive the new harsh environments. That however, also brought the pressure for the few new children every generation to do as best as they could since there weren’t going to be many chances for their lineages to continue. Said set up proved to be an unpleasant challenge for Shintaro, who was always the weird child, acting out of line unexpectedly, and seemingly struggling to just do what he was supposed to do. Sure, he was very quick at figuring out things that other children his age wouldn’t wrap their heads around at all, but he was still strange, causing him to deal with a lot of disappointment from his parents.
In fact, it went to the extent that from the age of 4, he was raised by his aunt who was unable to have her own children instead, as she took pity on him, and attempted to at least raise him with a more positive mindset than his parents who seemed keen on just giving up on him and his behavior. Thanks to her, he managed to grow up with less judgment thrown upon him at the very least, even though it was clear he would never be exactly the way the adults would have preferred him to be.
That, combined with having a somewhat adventurous spirit and a desire to gain more knowledge, and have more interesting things to focus on than their wasteland of a planet and homeland was what eventually drove him to seek to take off on his own, and that was also how he found himself on board of S.S. Philemon not too long afterwards. He’s been on the ship since, working in the shadows as a researcher for a couple years by now. Due to the combo of his awkward eccentric moments and a preference for observation, he had stayed away during the chaos that broke out with all those new people pouring in, but after watching for a bit and realizing that this crisis was clearly something bigger and about to drag on, he was eventually drawn out of his solitary research studying to help out the crew. After all, anyone with any ability to engage in combat was useful, and he couldn’t avoid dealing with all these new faces forever.
