Jam Session! (Mae-ae)

The DJ whooped as she entered the musical studio within San Malarus's city. It was a nice looking building, not to big but big enough for everything an aspiring artist could ever wish to have at their disposal. The lobby was clean enough, nothing overly extravagant but it had character. Guitars of different sizes and shapes hung from the wall, two odd shaped couches sat on either side of the hall like lobby. A table sat in front of the right table with an array of musical magazines neatly placed on it. A desk sat in the back with an office chair behind it and a up to date computer on top of the desk. A woman in her early twenties sat behind it, her hair a bright blonde.


"'Ey, Mally? A girl should be comin' sooner or later... She has red hair, short, a singer. Name's Mae. Let her in, aight? She'll be jammin with us today!" the DJ said in an exaggerated way in which after words she fist pumped the sky. The woman so fondly named Mally laughed and nodded her head, turning back to her computer to finishing whatever work she needed to do. It was obvious she was a secretary of sorts as she sat behind the desk with a kind smile lightly plastered across her face.

The DJ walked through the studio with ease and slipped into the recording studio with her stage name labeled on the door. Of course, she had placed an assortment of pictures detailing the many times she went on stage. It was almost like a history wall of sorts... Each picture showing the DJ on a different stage in a different outfit playing her signature DJ table.

The inside of the music studio though was as high tech as you could get. A sound board sat in front of a glass window that looked into the recording room. The normal room had a chair in the corner along with an exaggerated lamp. Besides that, it was a plain room with a tan carpet and a few chair for the sound board. The real show was the recording room though. It had black carpet from floor to ceiling and laid within was the DJ's beautiful turntables.

Beautiful and high tech; these turntables where the pinnacle of any DJ artists dream. The DJ was proud of them and easily enough slipped into the room and began looking through the songs she was wishing to use. Calvin rolled his eyes at her from behind the sound booth, clicking his tongue before pressing a button to speak to the DJ from behind the glass wall.

"No hellos for your knight in shining armor?" he said with a light laugh before getting up himself and slipping into the sound room as well. He picked up his guitar and sat on a wooden stool behind him, he propped up a leg and slowly began playing. As if on cue, the DJ started adding music to his, and with each press of a button and each swipe of a record, the music became a cohesion of beautiful sounds.


With that, the DJ picked up a mic from atop her turntables, clapping her hands as the guitar solo came. She'd sing along a little to a few notes here and there, mixing her voice to sound more techno as she did so. It was an amazing thing to witness, the two stars creating a new exciting sound the two weren't used to hearing. Foreign and scary, yet beautiful and exciting. These where the emotions that danced within the sound room.


Of course, there was one last member of the jam session that was supposed to be on their way. The DJ had texted that person that morning along with the directions to the studio and time the jam session would take place. Hopefully she wouldn't be to terribly late... The DJ needed an actual singer to join the fray.

Mae got the text message from Rain-chan that morning. How things have changed. Only yesterday she had been sleeping in the dorms, but now, the pinkette found herself inside a hotel room. A temporary solution. She was only going to stay here for one night. She couldn't really afford any time longer than that. She did have a place in mind where she could stay, but... Well, she hadn't asked HIM about it yet. And besides, Mae had 2 other things planned for today anyway. First, she needed to go to the Studio and Meet up with Rain-chan for that Jam Session. After that, she needed to visit the Velvet Room Hyde had told her about previously. And then there was the matter of living-space...

Mae packed her stuff back into her trunk after getting dressed, and left the hotel, leaving the keys at the lobby, checking out.


Trudging the heavy trunk behind her, Mae casually strolled towards the Studio, using the directions she had gotten from the DJ on that text message. It wasn't that hard to find honestly. She had gotten used to San Malarus (finally), and could find her way almost everywhere in that city now. Well, at least the more important places, like the station, the museum etc. Feeling proud of herself for not getting lost this time, she opened the doors, and entered the Studio. Behind the counter, a young, blonde lady sat down. Mae carefully approached her. "Umm... Hi. I'm Mae Iharu. I was supposed to meet DJ Ri Rain here today for a Jam Session." She said meekly, smiling.

The woman looked up at the pinkette that entered the music studio. She smiled lightly and neatly folded an envelope on her desk as she awaited the girl's arrival to her desk. Once there, she smiled lightly and nodded her head, tapping her finger on her chin lightly.

"So you're Rin's new friend? It's a pleasure to meet you, Mae. My name is Mallory Smith and you can say I'm the secretary here... Though, if Calvin wasn't here to be called the manager, I'd be that too." she said with a light laugh before taking a blank piece of paper from behind her desk and quickly drew a map of the building for Mae. She handed it to the girl with another light smile, a polite nod.

"Her studio is down this hall, take the second right, take the first left and then go up the stairs. Her room is the one covered with pictures straight ahead from there. It's easy, trust me." she said before going back to her work, a light wave to Mae to signal her to hurry up and get there. She knew first hand how amazing those jam sessions could get.

Meanwhile, the DJ and Calvin continues their jamming. It was a beautiful blizzard of rhythm and rhyme. It flowed through the room as Calvin had left the monitor on; it could even be heard through the door gently. It sounded rad to say the least!

"Yeah, that's me. Nice to meet you too, Mallory." Mae accepted the papers given to her by the secretary with a bright smile. "Thanks for the help! Have a nice day!" Mae nodded towards Mallory before going towards Rain-chan's studio, following the directions given by Mallory. This place was massive. Loads of people moving back and forth between different rooms. All kinds of musicians were here as well. Maybe, just maybe, Mae would see someone she recognized...

Ah, there it was. A door with a plaque with the DJ's name caught Mae's eye. She walked up to it and knocked carefully, before opening, peeking her head in first, making absolutely sure that this was indeed the right room. "Rain-chan?" She asked carefully.

The DJ didn't notice Mae-ae as she walked into her studio. Her whole attention was on the music that pulsed through the room. She continued her magic on the turntables and continued singing at points in the song. Calvin and the DJ continued their crazy duet until the song finally ended. The DJ whooped as it did so, fist pumping the sky causing Calvin to laugh lightly after wards. It was then that the two noticed Mae within the studio room. The DJ smiled and motioned for Mae to come in, handing her the microphone before smiling wryly.

"No words, aight? Let the music flow, aight?" she said with a light laugh before starting some music herself. Her hands moved quickly across the may components on the turntables, never once taking her eyes off her precious instrument. Calvin waved lightly towards Mae before going back to playing the guitar himself, the DJ expertly incorporating it within her music. If Mae sang along, the DJ would bring her words into the fray of music. It mixed and mingled into a beautiful cohesion of words and sounds. Those who heard from the outside would occasionally stop and listen to the three play. They made a great team it appeared.

Mae nodded in confirmation. She put her trunk near a wall, took off her jacket, and grabbed the microphone. She listened to the other two for a moment, just to get a good grasp on the beat and tempo before she thought up some lyrics on the spot, and started gently singing into the microphone. This kind of musical style was new to the aspiring singer, so it took a short while for her to truly get a grasp on how she wanted to sing. At that point, she just let go, and immersed herself in the music, dancing in place in tone with the music.

Mae thought back on the day when she had first arrived on Azores, when she had met Kazuya, Sharaku, Nilo and Eddie. It had been a very eventful day for Mae. Back then, she hadn't told anyone here of her singing talent. It truly was difficult to believe that three months had passed since then. Three whole months. And look at how much of Mae's life had changed in this short amount of time. New School, a ton of new friends, Awakening to Qilin, helping Quinn and the other two awaken, dating Charles, Winning that singing contest, Joining the Rangers, and now... The School had been shut down until further notice. She was really worried about it, but singing together with Rain-Chan and Calvin easer her worries. What a good way to start the day. Singing like this reminded Mae of all the good times here on Azores. It gave her the strength necessary to keep fighting. If not for herself, then for her friends. There was no way Mae could let them get in harms way...

"Whew... That felt good." Mae chuckled after the music had died down. "I'm Mae, by the way. I take it you're Calvin?" Mae offered a handshake. "Nice to meet you."

The DJ whooped as the song finished, picking up a note pad and flopping onto the ground with a thump, writing a complex code of words on it. It was obvious to be sheet music of some type, though the DJ variety? Maybe? Regardless, the DJ was busy and while she was, Calvin raised a brow and looked toward Mae with a light nod and smile. He reached out to shake her hand back, a light chuckle escaping him.


"Yes, my name's Calvin. Pleasure to meet you as well, Mae." he said with a charming smile before returning to strumming a bit on his guitar. The DJ eventually sat up and stuck the pencil in her mouth like a smoke, humming for a moment before standing up and flipping some of the dials on her turntables. She hummed before looking over to Mae with a smile and thumbs up.

"'Ey, you did awesome! Good job! Now... Waz it feel like?" she asked with a light smirk before playing a song and mixing it nonchalantly. Even with the laid back composure and look, the music she made was still astonishingly good. The DJ mused over what to incorporate into the song she planned to create today... It had to be rad, but inspiration was kinda... Preoccupied by that fight... Hmmm...

"Hehe thanks!" Mae smiled back at the DJ. "I had a ton of fun. I've never done something like this before. A jam-session that is. Mostly when I sing, it's when I'm alone, or when the situation calls for it. I do practice a bit each day on my own but... Well, it's difficult to get some real experience without any actual music. So yeah, It felt good singing. I'm not sure how much I actually contributed... but hey, it's something?" Mae smiled sheepishly. She was confident around friends and people around school about her singing talent, but she couldn't help but feel a little insecure when it came to these fully fledged musicians. Hopefully she did well enough...

Hm hm... Mm... So, maybe if she did this instead of that and incorporated that into this... Made sense! Though, this was obvious a work in progress... The DJ continued her work whilst she listened to Mae speak, Calvin continuing his random strumming before humming lightly, muttering something before placing his guitar down and stepping out of the sound room and into the other side of the recording studio. He sat down at the sound board and turned off the monitor, taking out his phone and making a call.

"... Mm... Hm... 'Ey, Mae-ae, ya contributed lots... Listen to this!" the DJ said as she put in the audio file of Mae's voice from moments ago. The DJ quickly added in Calvin's guitar and then worked her magic... What came out was a beautiful cohesion of Mae's voice and the guitar. Who'd have guessed the randomness from earlier could create something so amazing. The DJ grinned and began dancing in place, jumping from side to side as she worked her magic. She whooped and clapped her hands one moment, dancing to the beat that came on like a raver would. She was havin a blast!

"So so!? Do ya like it?" the DJ asked enthusiastically as the song finished. She was practically on tip toes with excitement. It wasn't completed, but hey! People loved demos of the real deal! The DJ was proud of the improv work she just pulled off on the fly, and boy did it show. Eh heh... The DJ was never one for subtlety...

"Huh? Alright, sure." Mae grabbed the headphones and put them on, giving Rain-chan the signal to start the music. As soon as the music started flowing, Mae closed her eyes, and listened. Huh...? Was her voice really that soothing? Mae honestly had never heard herself sing on a recording before. She moved in tune with the music just like she had done when singing earlier. The parts may have sounded... a little weird separated, but together, it came out beautifully. And it was just out of jamming out. "Wow... This is really good." Mae said after the music had stopped, taking off the headphones, and returning them to the DJ in the process. "I've never actually heard a recording of me singing before... It's... odd to hear..." Mae smiled sheepishly.

"So, do you do this often? Jamming out I mean. It was a ton of fun so far." And that was the honest truth. She'd love to do more of this if possible...

Hm hm... The DJ could edit this part a bit... But maaaan that wouldn't really work to well with the other parts... Hardest part about dubstep or techno was trying to find the right pieces to incorporate into the main beat... And then came the beat drop... Arguably the single most important part of any song in the DJ's mind... Hm, this could work though. The DJ worked away on her turntables with the headphones pressed against an ear, still listening to Mae with the other.

"Ya gets used to it... It ain't nothin like seein ya self on stage... Phew that's a blast!" the DJ said with a nod of her head. She smiled lightly, liking the way this song was coming along. She signaled Calvin to listen on the other end with a wave of a hand, the former guitarist slipping on a pair of headphones on the other side to listen... It would appear his phone call had ended... Wonder what it was about...

"Mm... Mhm... We gotta do it. The DJ ain't here for a vacay, Mae-ae... DJ's here to produce a record for herself... DJ does this bout every other day..." she said as she muttered something under her breath. This part of the song sounded odd... And not in a favorable way. The DJ began messing with the components on the turntables idly, trying to find a way to improve its sound.

"I suppose. And that would be pretty cool yeah." Mae chuckled happily. "So, how did you two meet?" The singer asked curiously. How did these two end up meeting eachother? "I just find it interesting. That, and I'm... kinda jealous of Rain-chan. Everyone at school is talking about you. You're my age, and people are already talking about you in a very positive light. I wish I could go off and just... pursue a career in music on a whim like that. But... I wanna have a backup plan, just in case..." Mae stared off into space. "I'm gonna give it an honest shot. But the music industry is tough..."

"Sounds like a lot of fun. So, do you use whatever you record here in these Jam-sessions for something later on?" Mae asked curiously. "Feel free to ask me if you need a voice for that record. I'll gladly lend it to you!" The girl smiled happily. Helping out was something she highly enjoyed, and she just couldn't pass up an opportunity to sing.

Hm hm... So, Mae-ae wanted a biography? Huh... Well, the DJ would comply. It wasn't like her back story was super tragic or anything... Especially with Calvin in it. So, where would the DJ begin... She continued to mess around with her turntables as she thought of what to say. Kinda slow thinking wise at first... Eh, oh well... Explanation tiiiime!

"The DJ went to music college for the piano... But some friends got her into the turntables hard core... She became pretty famous there... Kinda caught the attention of lots of record deals... But then Calvin came along and swooped the DJ off her feet... DJ and Calvin been together sense, touring and takin world by storm." the DJ said with a light smile, remembering all the food times she and Calvin had. Who'd have guessed she'd become so famous in such a short time? It was a little scary at times... But it was so amazing as well! The DJ was following one of her dreams... Even if she still wanted the other equally as bad though...

"Mm... It ain't easy, Mae-ae... The DJ's still able to go into business if she flunks up. Music ain't an easy career... People don't like ya stuff you'll stay under water till ya drown. Ya gotta make sure you have a legit professional like Calvin there." she said with a wave of her hand as Calvin nodded towards the two. The DJ returned to her work a little before continuing, humming along with the tune as she did so. "If ya don't got someone like Calvin... Someone professional an a real musician... It ain't gunna be fun the first few tours... Trust me." she said with a light nod before musing over another part in the song, humming the tune back to herself for a moment.

"Ahm... Rarely... These jam sessions are more for practice... DJ uses it for inspiration for the real deal... And the DJ'd looove to have ya in her record... But Calvin'd have to sign ya up as a singer an he don't have the time to handle two musicians with goals like ours... Calvin always wants the musician to have their credit." the DJ said, hoping it didn't hurt Mae-ae's feelings. Calvin was odd in some aspects... But the DJ had to agree with him on this part. People deserved credit, and Mae-ae bein a no named artist could lead to all kinda obscurity for her... Ain't no one want that.

"That sounds amazing. I gotta admit I'm kinda jealous, but I'm still happy for you. Tak care of this wonderful opportunity you got here, ya hear?" Mae smiled at Rain-Chan. That did indeed sound like the life her mom lived. Touring around, singing to her hearts content, making people happy. Yeah, that was just the kind of life Mae wanted. At present it was just a dream, but eventually, Mae would make that dream become reality. And on that day, she would be smiling proudly, and share her music with the world.

Well, you can say that again. The music industry is tough, no matter how you twist it. Tough, but fair. For the most part at least..." Mae sat down, brushing a strand of hair out of her face. "Phew, that's good. I thought these were actually going to be used at some point. I was just making up lyrics on the spot." Mae smiled sheepishly. Yeah, Mae had just winged it at the time. "Aww, that's too bad. But I can at least Jam out with you two every now and again, right?" Mae asked, winking in Calvin's direction, trying to look as cute and persuasive as possible. "You have time for little, ol' Mae right?"

Pfft, like DJ would ever give this up for anything! R-Right...? It was this kinda phrase that forced the DJ to... Agree to something she wasn't sure about. The DJ loved living her dream... A life of romance and freedom! One full of art and fame! Life long friends and the chance to explore the whole world! I mean... Who wouldn't want a life like that? Especially an artist no less! S-So... Why did the DJ always second guess herself...? This kinda sucked, to be fare... Wish it was easier... Wish she didn't want that as well... Sigh...

"Pfft, yah the DJ will! I ain't gunna give this life up for nothin!" the DJ said with a light laugh, her stage facade never dropping. She had mastered her mask to say the least... She didn't let anything screw with her outward appearance... In the end, that's kinda all she gots goin to herself... If her facade fell, eesh... She'd be a wreck to say the least. The DJ nodded to Mae as she continued talk about the music business... The DJ'd seen some of the hardships of music... Though, nothing to severe yet. She wasn't gunna give up though, that was for sure!

"Nope. All my time goes to my princess right there." Calvin said with a charming smile and smirk before answering a phone call and turning the monitor off. He spun in the chair lazily, speaking incoherent words to the person on the other line. The DJ couldn't help but stare at him every now and again... Jeez he made her world worth wild... Did that make sense? Why was life so conflicting for the DJ... Eesh... Zeta uncool.

"Yah, course ya can come some more! It'd be rad ta have ya around!" the DJ said with a laugh before returning to her turntables, brushing the conflicting thoughts out of her mind. She needed to focus on her music right now... Not these silly thoughts. Life was to short to deal with stuff like that... Right?
