An Eventful Night (Grant/Awakening)

Work was uneventful, tiring. Joshua had just closed down the store with the manager's help. Every bit of merchandise had to be accounted for and the same had to be treated with the money that was left in the cashier. It was really the standard fare. With everything locked and shut, the boy could finally leave the store for the night. Every day really felt like a waste of his time, he admitted. But, at least it was bringing in the cash. Though, it wasn't stopping him from considering a new job at the least.

"Well, time to go home," he muttered to himself.

Tired, he just started to mindlessly make his way through the streets while minding his own business. It would be great to get back home and try that ham he had just bought from last night's grocery shopping. As usual, it would be an uneventful walk back home. Except for the huge glowing green star in the sky that hung ominously above the island. But ultimately uneventful in any case.

Tomorrow will probably be the actual time for him to ask Nozomi over the phone about the city's situation more and maybe he can bring Sharaku with him. Maybe. He yawned loudly. It's been a long day of doing nothing and probably moving around some stuff. Perhaps a little jog back home? Joshua shook his head. No, it's pretty late and it'd just make sleeping harder while unnecessarily throwing off his sleeping cycle. Nevertheless, everything was normal. As usual.

Around the area, the world began to stop, as though someone or something had paused all existence. All except for Joshua. He would be able to hear no noise, only silence as the world around him remained silent. The sudden occurrence was completely out of left wing. Anyone that was still out in the evening had stopped literally in their tracks. In Joshua's head however, he could hear a voice from the deep corners of his mind. What in the world was going on?

Something-- no, all has stopped. Except for Joshua, who also stopped in his tracks and looked around in confusion. He didn't know what was going on. Was he going crazy? Or is this a dream? It felt all so real to him, surreal even. This was already piercing through the logic that he knew of the world he lived in. So now, it settles it. This city, is definitely weird.

"Oookay. Weird. Alright, what the hell is going on?"

Nothing seemed to really answer his question, since everyone is busy being frozen and immobile. But, something was trying to say something and Joshua couldn't quite pinpoint it at first. It felt like a whisper. But, he could start to hear some of it.

"Su-----"

What? He couldn't hear it, but it started to feel like... like there were voices in his head. More of it repeated itself, but it didn't seem to come out clearly.

"Sum--n m-, h--ry!"

"Oh Jesus Christ, I'm becoming a crazy too."

The voice that belonged to him would grow in intensity, while a bright light began to emanate from the ground in front of him, and from it, a strange being would show up, floating calmly out of the light as though the light itself had given birth to it. It looked absolutely surreal, and yet while it did not attack, it seemed like it had a sort of intent that Joshua may not like...

Meanwhile, a voice was heard nearby, but it sounded more like a shout from someone too far away to guess the voice. All that mattered was the strange shaded being that floated before him, and the pulses in his mind that seemed to awaken something deep...

"C-ll f-- me! It's c--ing!" he heard the voice in his head a little bit more clearly this time and it was urgent. But, he couldn't still make heads or tails of what it said.

"Wha--?"

Before he could even comprehend, something just showed up to cause his eyes to widen to the size of saucers and his mouth to gape openly at it. There was light and something appeared once it faded away. It looked like some ghost, just floating in front of him. A specter-like being with an eerie vibe to it. Clearly, it did not look like a human being at all. Even it didn't do anything yet, it looked... threatening. Suspicious.

"WHAT. WHAT THE FUCK?"

He had no other words and Joshua couldn't exactly understand what's happening. But, he at least knew that he had to get out or something. It was a threat, it had to be. Was this what all these people were trying to tell him?

There was another voice, and it sounded hollow as if it were spoken through a long distance.

"Summon me! Reach for it, child!" it called.

Soon, in front of Joshua, was a card. It floated in front of him, as if dangling for him to grasp it. And so he did. Before he knew it, it shattered and soon a menacing knight with a great sword stood next to him. A spear was found within Joshua's grip, causing him to be even more flabbergasted. Though, he had no time for that as the armored being spoke.

"I am thou! Thou art I! From the sea of thy soul, I come to cast my sorcery and wield my blade at thou service. I am Sir Bedivere of the Round Table. Come! Let us eliminate this vile being!"

It readied its blade with one hand as the other just fell loosely to his side, this Bedivere was in a stance. Joshua looked back at that white spectral being and then back at the knight who waited for him.

That's it. Logic has really hit the shitter tonight.

"Y'know what? Fuck it. Let's do this."

Battle Music

Bringing up all the memories he had from all the training in his hobby, Joshua steeled himself as he adopted a stance of his style. And so, the battle commences.

The shouts grew louder, like whatever was happening some distance away was getting closer, and the voice was sounding remarkably like a woman's. Regardless, the shade-like being stared at Joshua as his potential awakened. It meant he could fight now. It was then that the being moved a little closer, perhaps making clear its violent intent. But what was it anyway?

It was certainly an odd occurrence to see, that the shade being had attacked itself. It looked as though this fight would go smoothly, that is, it would if nearby a large ball of flame hadn't passed the young man and into the shade, decimating it and causing the being to vanish. Were Joshua to look to his left where the shot came from, he would see an odd sight; namely a woman with long hair retreating from a horde of what he had just seen, numbering easily near the hundred level, before she arrived to him, grabbed his hand, and with such sudden force, pulled him to her side. Upon further inspection, her eyes were bright golden. She clutched her head, and after a scream, a strange creature appeared behind her, that looked like a green woman and was similar to what Joshua had with him.

"Hey kid! You were the other guy I heard right? You got a Persona now too huh? Good call, I guess you are stronger than you looked. These thing's aren't so strong, but they can take a punch like crazy. I'll watch your back, and we can take these things on together okay? Everything will turn back again if you just listen, so let's not be bitches and take em out!" She prepared for the upcoming fight. Were Joshua familiar with the news, it would not take too much effort to recognize who this woman was...

Everything seemed to go well. Sir Bedivere seemed to be very effective against this enemy with whatever the hell it did. Was it hypnosis? Whatever it was, it was at least keeping Joshua alive and that much he'd appreciate. But this white thing got decimated by flames, causing him to yelp out loud, "Holy fucking shit!"

He recoiled at the explosion of the flames with arms trying to protect himself, but he felt no heat and peeked out to see the creature was gone. Decimated. Where the hell did it come from?

Joshua looked back to where it originated to see two people, no rather, a person and something else. The latter felt like it was something similar to Bedivere. A girl and some green woman. So he was not alone, it seems. There was a mixture of fear and relief. But, there was no time for that. There was a horde of... "something". It wasn't looking any good.

"Oh you've gotta be fucking with me..." he groaned at the numbers, "Oh fine! I'll back you up. Let's go!"

With Bedivere, the knight held out the point of its blade and cast the same spell again.

Rinna smirked at her hit, but frowned a bit at Joshua's failure to land something on them. "Keep fighting dude! Sometime's you just gotta beat the shit out of it, those dumb tricks won't always work here, so get moving. I don't want to know what these things can do." She looked to them as the large horde seemed to dwindle some after her attack, but it was still ready to fight, as it send to arcs of lightning towards the group. "Son of a bitch. Fine then, I will get serious!"

Joshua expected it to work, but it failed to his consternation. At least the girl seemed to be doing her job well. But that didn't stop it from zapping him.

"ARGH! SHIT, MOTHERFUCKER!"

It hurt real bad, Joshua was surprised by the lightning that hit him. But somehow, he was alive and hurt. The voice of the girl telling him to keep fighting kept him moving. He bit his lip and maintained some bearing. He had to keep going or he's going to die.
