Part Time Job: Waitress/Bartender at ‘BLACK CAT’, a strange little Goth club in some seedy corner of Nadashiki. Contrary to popular belief, Rin does not do ‘favors’ in the back room for customers who slip her a bit of extra cash.

Appearance: Even with unnaturally pale skin thanks to a layer of make-up, there are still obvious dark rings around Rin’s eyes, as well as very faint bags. She looks more washed-out than healthy after her years of substance abuse, and her lips tend to lack proper colour due to poor circulation. Regardless, Rin still has an elegant, broken kind of attractiveness that often attracts those with a love for gothic fashion. Her body further accentuates her goth look, what with her long, thin limbs and slender, though healthy, frame, that tends to be absorbed by her boofy black dresses and stockings.

Personality: Rin is an extraordinarily lonely person, despite being able to speak to people quite easily and having a decent personality. She finds it impossible to really relate to people because she views herself as a different creature the them, which places a one-sided wall between herself and anyone she tries to form a genuine bond with. In order to cope with these intense feelings of loneliness, Rin convinced herself that things like friends, family and lovers are just burdens; that she only needs herself to be happy. Despite that, she desperately clings to Nyarlathotep and her fellow Children, although she both outwardly denies it and sub-consciously represses it.

She often uses alcohol and painkillers to cope with her feelings, preferring to drown herself in a chemical daze than have to face herself and the way she truly is. Due to this, Rin could easily be called a substance abuser and can frequently be found drinking or sneaking a pill - or, if things are really bad, a needle - in the bathroom. She doesn’t think she has a problem, even though, these days, she tends to come home drunk more often than she does sober, and refuses to associate with anyone who tries to tell her to stop.

Her regard for her well-being and body is extremely low. She wouldn’t bat an eyelash at the idea of drinking herself into a coma, or covering her arms in needle marks, because, in her mind, she’s a creature of the fog, not a fragile human being. This frequently pushes her into taking risks in battle, such as not healing herself until she’s on the edge of life and death. She’ll also take hits for her teammates, if she’s close enough to them, without any concern for what may happen to herself.

The Children may be regarded as a group of psychopaths, but Rin legitimately cares for her fellow teammates and would do anything in order to protect them. Of course, if anyone pointed this out to her, she’d laugh it off, claiming it’s only because so many of Nyarlathotep’s Children seem to be cute high school boys - which is a complete lie. She may be reluctant to form ties with others, but she’s naturally drawn to those similar to herself with how broken they are.

Rin’s motives for wanting to help the Crawling Chaos? It’s simple. She thinks that, if she came from the fog, then she’ll be happy if she’s back in it. Unfortunately, she can’t last inside said fog without suffering from exhaustion and eventually having to leave, due to being a human being. However, Rin, so caught up in her belief of being a Shadow, has come to consider that perhaps she’d be able to survive in the fog if it swallowed the human world. It’s a ridiculous idea, but it’s also her very last attempt at finding a way to be happy, even if it means dooming billions of innocents.

If you haven’t guessed, Rin’s a pretty selfish person. She doesn’t care about sacrificing the entirety of the world if it means she doesn’t feel so alone, and she’s unafraid of pushing people out of her way when she wants something. She’d never do anything to hurt those she cares about, but those people are far and few between, so do very little to redeem Rin as a person, though the point still stands that, in her eyes, the Children are off-limits when it comes to stepping on people.

But that doesn’t mean Rin is against cracking the whip, now and then. Mainly being a heal/support fighter, she takes it upon herself to give commands to her teammates, pointing out weaknesses and healing them when necessary. She doesn’t take well to having her orders ignored and, if pushed far enough, will refuse a party member healing until they appease her with their frantic apologies and begging for help. It’s a very small part, but a piece of her enjoys seeing her teammates begging for her assistance; it’s an ego boost, and helps her deal with the insecurities she has about having an offensively weak persona.

A lot of the time, Rin gives off a ‘cool big sis’ vibe, due to being so laid-back and calm, as well as not being against giving minors alcohol, which tends to earn her a few more fans. As well as the booze, Rin’s fine with letting people crash in her cheap little apartment for a while, with absolutely no rent needing to be paid. She’s a pretty generous person when it comes to people she likes - possibly a little too generous, seeing as she usually has a couple of people sleeping in her house at any time.

It’s a well kept secret, but Rin has always wanted to become a kindergarten teacher. She has a legitimate fondness for pre-school children and, if necessary, would seriously consider going against Nyarlathotep or her teammates if it meant she could protect one from harm.

On that note, Rin doesn’t view the fog as harmful. She appears to think of it as a welcomed relief from thought and free-will; something that will make people happier once they drown in it and morph into their Shadow forms. She’s convinced that humanity is, in itself, a depressing thing, as it causes people to repress their true selves and desires. In her mind, the world would be a better place if everyone gave in and admitted to themselves, and others, who they really were and what they wanted, instead of trying to lie to themselves. In that way, Rin genuinely believes that by allowing the fog to overtake the Earth, she’ll be helping save everyone from themselves.

The Background

History: Even as a child, Rin knew there was something different about herself; she just couldn’t figure out what. Like other children, she ate, slept and bled, but she could not shake the feeling that something deep, deep down set her apart from the other kids in her neighborhood. She spent numerous years considering what that mysterious thing was, and, at age nine, came to the realization that she wasn’t a human being. Yes, she looked and acted like one, though she somehow knew that she just... wasn’t. However, this only lead to another, even more difficult question: if she wasn’t human, what was she?

Her identity crisis wasn’t brought on by any kind of trauma she experienced as a youth; no, in fact, her parents were incredibly supportive of their only daughter and did their very best to raise her correctly.

Rin went through numerous phases in trying to figure out what species she was. Everything from vampire to kappa, werewolf to pixie, though nothing ever clicked with her; nothing made her go “Yep. This is what I am.”

When she hit seventeen, still confused about her true identity, she came across a legend about a creature known as the Crawling Chaos. After spending months upon months digging up every little bit of knowledge there was about this beast, Rin finally discovered a single word that finally spoke to her; ‘Shadow’.

Convinced she was a Shadow, a member of the Crawling Chaos’ legion, Rin, for the first time in her life, felt as if she found where she belonged; like she was a whole person. She immediately begun research into methods of summoning Nyarlathotep so she could make her status as Shadow official in the eyes of the one she believed was her creator.

The moment she hit 18, Rin moved out of her parent’s house in Yoro and took up residence in Nadashiki, the entertainment capital in hopes of bringing excitement into her life, and possibly meet other Shadows who took the form of humans. Unfortunately, even after almost two years, Rin has yet to find anyone else aware of Nyarlathotep or his legion of fog dwellers, and spends her days working at BLACK CAT, a nightclub that caters to a more gothic crowd than clubs like Shiki.

For your chain saw skill, that is pretty much a RP mechanic, but will be considered a good strength for Player vs. Player battles. That is just something to remember, is all.
