| Green as far as the eye could see, bright and vibrant blue skies, crisp fresh air filling his lungs with each breath. Shin walked down the side of the road, completely miserable with each step. All in all, Shin was most certainly a city boy by far. This country side farm land was...well..."This sucks!" Shin huffed. He decided then and there he was not a fan of this at all. He was visiting one of his sisters that lived out here, but she was currently at work. Leaving Shin with nothing to do for the day until she returned much later. He was bored, and wanted to go to the convenience store to buy some snacks.
But so far, there was not a single thing convenient about this store at all! It wasn't even that far of a walk really, Shin was just lazy and the heat was not helping him whatsoever. He was wearing a white short sleeved t-shirt, blue shorts and sneakers, and a sun hat that actually belonged to his sister. Too large for his head, it was yellow with a pink flower in it. Each step felt like a labor for the small blonde, though he wasn't even that tired, just dramatic.
Soon enough the store, along with other buildings like the post office came into view. Even the bus stop he took to get here. Half tempted to take it home, but of course he would not. Turning his attention back to the store, he strolled in and immediately sought out a cold beverage. Some juice and gummy candy for his sweet tooth. Though what juice he wanted was actually proving a difficult choice. He didn't want to walk all the way back to the store if he wants something else later so he needed to choose wisely. Poking a finger to his lower lip he stared at his choice, giving a soft hum as he forgot about his surroundings, mind occupied with the all important juice selection.

| Another day in East Eden, another regret for everyone else in the world that Mallory hadn't accidentally blown herself up. More potential for well meaning mayhem, more potential for idiocy. All in a days work for the ginger menace. With that in mind, Mallory opted to go for a walk. Or, perhaps walk was an inaccurate term, the roller skates strapped precariously to her feet only proving her lack of safety as she skated down the country roads. Were it just the way her skates were strapped that made her seem dangerous or perhaps just weird, then one could pass it off as an accident. But instead, there was more.
Over her eyes, the girl wore sunglasses, and her hair was done back in a long, frizzy ponytail. Over her right hand was a leather glove, with nothing covering her left. She was skating along with a skirt, and a long sleeved wooly jumper, and most menacingly of all, a wild grin upon her face. A toolbelt, with several pouches filled with pencils and a purse, was strapped around her waist, and even her skates were bizarre, with two plastic strips on each side per boot.
As the sight of a small shop strip came into view, and there, Mallory's impulsivity struck once again. Skating to a stop just outside, the girl knelt down to each skate boot, and flipped down the plastic strips, which when folded down went lower than the wheels, turning them into just large, really weird looking boots. That done, the maniac strutted into the store with a swagger in her step, and smug on her face. The bizarre one entered the scene, walking over to the nearby section of newspapers and looking down at them from atop her stilted position, scratching at her head for a moment.

| Shin heard the bell of the door ring with someone else entering the little store. He picked his head up and instinctively looked towards the sound to see the girl walking on in. He gave a little gasp to himself because this situation was just like something out of a romance novel. Well, that's what he told himself anyway. A summer romance story or something like that! he told himself, already imagining all sorts of cute and fluffy scenarios with this person he had not even spoken to yet. Even up until the tearful departure when their time together ends cause Shin has to go home eventually. He almost got teary eyed at the image of waving at her while the bus drove away, the stranger slowly disappearing from sight as it did. Shin shook his head to clear his mind of silly thoughts of love and romance.
Grabbing whatever juice since he had more important priorities now. He happily strolled along over to stand by the girl and give a cheery little "Hi there!" to get her attention. The rest was pretty much hard wired into Shin, the way he spoke to someone he found attractive, even fleetingly, he gave her a little wave and introduced himself, sort of. "Sorry to bother, you were just so captivating I couldn't focus on anything else but saying hello!" He chuckled lightly, believing himself to be so darn smooth.
Though, the first meeting was always the roughest one. As he did not know where her boundaries were, and over stepping them was an easy way to sink any chances of anything fruitful. Inching back just a teeny bit to not invade any personal space, Shin introduced himself for reals this time. "My name is Shin, are you from around here?" if not his ticket to true love, this girl could at least possibly be a friend or even just a time killer, all scenarios looking like a win for Shin in the moment.

| At the sound of someone saying the ever repeated phrase of "hi there!", Mallory turned, although having to manually raise each leg and step down in order to turn properly, looking down at the little guy. Seemed like it was just some random kid-
Then the pick up line came, and Mallory had to hold back a giggle, raising a hand to her face. She wasn't sure if it was cute, hilarious, or creepy. For now, she decided it was absolutely hilarious, snickering, before shaking her head to calm herself down - albeit probably appearing rude in the meantime. As he stepped back, Mallory took a moment to look him up and down, as if appraising him. Juice, light voice, tiny. Yup. This was a child, probably, if Mallory had to guess anyways. Still, she wasn't exactly a terrible person, at least according to herself. So, might as well humour the young boy.
Pointing to herself with braggadocio (and a thumb), Mallory gave a grin that exuded self confidence; or perhaps, overconfidence. "Nice to meet you Shin! The name's Mallory Lucklace, engineer, mechanic, scientist, and overall genius extraordinaire! Yup! I'm from around here! In fact..."
Yes, perfect, another potential customer!
Reaching into her pocket, Mallory produced a crumpled card, holding it out to the young guy. On it, a picture of a house in the middle of a field was shown, with words over it that gave an address, and described some sort of mechanic service. "If ever you are in need of some high quality service, we do everything from repairs, to upgrades, or if you have old things you don't need any more, I'll be more than happy to dismantl- I mean, recycle them!"

| Shin's flirtatious attempts were ignored it seemed. Though not that it bothered the young man, he'd just have to try again at a later time. A more opportune time. The romance did not blossom in the first chapter after all, if it did that'd be a boring story. The build up was the fun part! She gave him a grin and pointed at herself. Shin liked her smile, the confidence she put out felt like an inviting glow to the blond as well. Mallory Lucklace was her name, Shin giving a soft "Ohh" thinking the name was neat.
Though her impressiveness did not stop there! She listed off her jobs? Skill sets? titles? Whatever it was, she was listing off a bunch of things that made her sound so very impressive. Shin clapped his hands lightly in response, as if applauding the girl for some performance. "Woaah, a real genius? So cool!" She was also from the area it turned out, though that was less relevant now that she dropped all this amazingness on him.
She fished out something that looked like a piece of trash and held it out to Shin. He took the paper and tried to straighten it a bit before taking a look. A house and address. Usually girls start by giving a phone number, but it seemed this Mallory wanted to skip to- "Oh this is like, your shop?" Shin asked, realizing this was probably not her home. What it was a shop for exactly, was unclear.
"You work on like, cars or something?" Shin asked, tilting his head. From the sound of it, she'd work on almost anything. If that were true, then she really was impressive! So much so that Shin was curious. "Hey hey, can I see your shop?" he asked, since he had nothing better to do. It was an excuse to spend more time with a cute girl at the very least. Besides, if she was as impressive as she made herself out to be, he was sure seeing her place of work would be cool also.

| At his praising of her obviously high intellect, Mallory kept grinning and smirking. About time someone recognised her inevitable greatness. While the reality was that it was a light clapping, to Mallory, it might as well have been the sound of a roaring stadium of applause, the idea of her accepting a prize for one contraption or another fueling her mind with inspiration and smart stupidity.
At Shin's question about whether it was her shop, and what she worked on, the girl laughed and shrugged slightly. "I mean, it's kind of my shop? Well, not really. It's my bosses shop, I just work there, like, all the time I'm not at the academy. As for what we do... Well, yeah, cars. And bikes. General engines. Even skateboards. We're a general machinists. Although, trust me when I say, even if it's not broken, I can fix it, AND make it better! As for seeing it, I don't see any harm in it, although it's just a general mechanics, so, tools, spare parts, and all that jazzerooni."

| Shin noticed how much his little gestures were actually feeding into her ego. She kept a big wide grin on her face and he could not help being infected by it, a smile on his own lips watching her. Shin thought she was cute, but this initial greeting confirmed she was, in a different way. It was the kind of look one saw in the eyes of somebody talking about their passion. Shin nodded along as she spoke, asking her of her shop soon after.
He looked down at the card again as she explained. It was sorta her shop, but she did not own it. So...not her shop at all? Shin chuckled as she resumed. She said whenever she was not at 'the academy' she was working there. Shin tilted his head and repeated "The academy?" curious if he and her were schoolmates or something possibly. As her explanation resumed she mentioned exactly what it was she worked on, and from the sound of it, it really was a little bit of everything. "Woaaah" Shin said, so impressed with her ability. Not only repairs, but it seemed she could improve upon things as well. Shin once again clapped his hands and said "My goodness! You really are some kinda genius or something!"
Though, he had no use of her services currently. Still looking around wouldn't hurt he figured. Before he could respond further however, his phone buzzed. With a soft "hm?" He reached into his pocket and removed his phone to see he got a text, his sister telling him she got home and asking where he was. Writing up his reply, he told Mallory "Ah, I gotta go. I'll be sure to stop by your shop sometime if I ever need a handylady!" He told her, raising the card to show he had a way of getting in contact in the future. With a small wave he told her "It was nice to meet you!" He then paid for his junk, and went on home. Eyeing the card in his hand. He'd have to find an excuse to visit there sometime. Maybe he could break his sister's car or something...

| "Heck yeah! Feel free to stop by if you need to a tune up, repair, or upgrade!" She declared, thrilled to bits with the chance to promote herself as such. Still, at the sudden moment where the stranger checked his phone, Mallory waited patiently, watching and nodding her head as he declared he had to go. Okay, maybe not patiently, so much as just waiting according to societal conventions.
As the stranger paid then left, Mallory waved, grinning and calling out. "Bye bye! I look forward to your custom!" She declared, a smug grin plastered on her face, spacing out in self confidence for a while - at least, until she remembered where she was through the subtle hint of the shop keeper coughing, reminding her to get out of the way. With that done, she picked up a couple of snacks, the newspaper, and went to the counter, paying before heading back outside. Returning to the freedom of the world, Mallory re-engaged her super stupid skates, sliding off into the distance.
