Ceceiling [Afternoon - Frog x Cecil]

Frog was on his way home from school. Yet another perfectly regular, unassuming day after what'd happened the last two nights to shake up his world. He didn't know what to do about Skelter. He kind of didn't want in if it meant being in for life but Brit chose Skelter...this put him in a predicament. He couldn't leave Brit. So he had to talk to her eventually.

The sooner the better. If Skelter was gonna attack Invidia then he had to make sure he talks to Brit before that.

Who he noticed as he'd been daydreaming while walking by was a familiar yet new face. That guy from the Ranch. Frog was on the other side of the road from Cecil. He could probably say something to get the guy to notice him but he didn't wanna raise a ruckus. A bead of sweat forming on his forehead as he neared Cecil's coordinates...
Dangnabbit.

It was all going so well for Cecil. So very, very well.
Admittedly, there was that whole 'psyche-terrorist, free the city, also there are these other guys that will murder you thing to deal with too, but leeeet's ignore that for now.
The reason things were good was because Mr. Skeltal had SHUT. THE HELL. UP.
His entire school day, being pestered to socialise, despite the fact that THAT was like banging his head on a wall, and was doomed to go up in flames.
It...it was a special kind of hell.
And as Cecil spotted Frog, he felt a sudden sense of imminent doom. Should Frog have been looking at Cecil in the moment that their routes started to coincide, he would have seen a look of desperate pleading in his eyes.
...please? No?
It felt like his very soul was being stared into...though it was probably more accurate to say it was being stared out of.
He wasn't getting out of this.

Cecil swallows. "...hey."

The meek greeting made Frog's blood run cold and his step to lose its vigor. The bead of sweat suspended on his forehead as his eyes widened in pure hatred for a moment...
Before he gave the kindest smile and waved in response. "Hi! Cecil, right~?" He said with a perky kind of voice and an even perkier attitude behind it. From what he could tell, Cecil was just as distressed to have encountered him so suddenly as well, so why the guy decided it'd be good to make himself known and greet him, Frog would never know.

"Did ya do what you wanted to do back at the ranch?" It had been quite an interesting encounter when they first met. Frog had plenty to tease the other about from then, yet Cecil could tease him just as much in return. They'd both made fools out of themselves.

Dear god, that was not the response he'd expected. Those were the kind of sickly sweet saccharine tones that even he could pick up on...though that may have more been disbelief that...Frog...
Seriously, what kind of asshole parent calls their kid that?
That Frog would have any wish to associate with him again. He only spoke up because of Ankou, so what on earth was going on in his head that he responded like that after what happened the first time they met?

Cecil shakes his head, and just focuses on getting through this. "I could say yes, but that would be a filthy lie." He shrugs, smiling as if it was nothing, rather than yet another symptom of his usual problems. "You? How're you doing?"

As Frog chirpedly held a hand to his cheek in wait of Cecil's response, he observed the other with some interest. Something wasn't quite right yet he was well aware of what. It was the fact Cecil was forcing this interaction just as much as he was. Cecil's social skills, however...were apparently and obviously even lower than his. Or so he'd say and hope.

"Well I'm glad you didn't feel the social need to lie to me, haha-!" Frog gave a short laugh. There was something bitter behind it though. "I'm fine. I didn't have anything to do there aside from walking my dog and there're never any problems with that." Except when there are, but no one talked about those walks, haha. Either way, now that the conversation was starting to flow, there was no reason to end it prematurely. "I'm always fine. Quite very fine. However something's happened lately that got me a bit down. Iunno, difficult life stuff and such."

Cecil scoffs at the mention of just what was socially needed. "Wasn't going to be fooling anyone anyway..." Seriously, their closing interaction was, in part, him telling him that he didn't get what he'd wanted to done and he needed to go. Wouldn't that have been a reversal if he'd just said otherwise?

At the mention of recent happenings causing problems, Cecil groan, his voice taking a dry tone. "You wouldn't be the only one. Things have been different, and it's causing me no end of frustration." He thinks as pointedly as he can at Ankou, scowling for a moment. Damn him. "It's...proving tricky to get used to."

"Hmmm-" Frog nodded his head at Cecil's response. He wasn't expecting the guy to reciprocate on the feeling. To be honest he expected Cecil to somehow shoot him down or something. Though after last time, that was probably a false assumption. The guy seemed to be at least naturally emotional, seeing as how he'd gotten upset when he thought he'd upset Frog by mentioning the dog stuff. "Ah well mine's just...something that happened and won't ever change again. So I have no choice but to get used to it." Frog responded briefly. He was somewhat curious as to what was getting Cecil so frustrated but alas he couldn't bring it up probably. After all they'd barely gotten to know each other.

"I see, well I hope your thing gets better-is what I'd say if I wasn't myself. But I'm myself. I can't tell such a blatant lie."

Cecil scratched at the back of his head. "It's...kind of the same for me, actually...weird." Given, apart from that, it was probably nothing alike, but it was a strange kind of coincidence. "Not the first time for anything like that, though. Things change, or they don't. Just have to keep living."

For a moment, Cecil seems surprised. And then, his lips twist upwards in a wry smile. "Not many people that'd actually say that." It sounds like he's supressing a laugh. "Appreciate it though. Much better than a set of sickly sweet tones that don't sound right to either of us." He chuckles to himself, shaking his head with a grin on his face. "I'm still surprised you actually did that. Wasn't expecting much of a response at all, honestly."

Frog listened intently with hands in his pockets at Cecil. So something of the such was happening to the guy as well, eh? Cecil was probably missing the mark by a wide margin...Frog could already imagine how off Cecil's guesses were from what he meant. A bitter twitch of the lip reminded him he still needed to behave, while a hand over his face, running his bangs back, reminded him of what was waiting for him up ahead.

Frog cocked his head to the side, hair following suspendedly after it. "Well the less I know about you, the more honest I can be. Besides you seem like the kind of guy who'd accept something like that because you probably feel that way too at least at times." He explained before smirking. It was tough to keep the impulses in check when the others were expressing them too. He gave a carefree shrug at the final remark. "Glad to be of service. When one's not expecting a reply it kills the conversation." And so long as at least one of his bones favored messing with others, he could do exactly what Cecil wouldn't want him to do. It ended up positive, though. Everyone was happy. Even Frog who'd feared the imminent conversation with Cecil.

"That's...an interesting way of thinking about things. Not exactly wrong, though." He shrugs, gesturing out with one hand. "I see what you mean though. In some ways, it's easier to say what you like when you don't really know someone..." He pauses. "Though not all the time. We'd have a lot more people mouthing off otherwise."
"Easy to feel that way, yeah. Harder to say it. Not so sure I could just come out with something like that."

Cecil raises an eyebrow. "I wouldn't have expected killing a conversation would be something you'd get too hung up over. Or, at least...not at this point." He rubs his head a little, before running his fingers through his hair. "Not that I could blame you. Social stuff can be a pain to deal with."

"Eh, a certain level of affiliation has to exist for it to occur, honestly. If I didn't care even a slight bit I wouldn't have a reason to talk back and be honest. After that point has been reached though...go over it enough and then you don't wanna talk back in such a way so as to not hurt the person." Frog gave a shrug in response. Cecil was taking it way too seriously but it was his own damn fault was even saying something like that. "So yeah with total strangers one just feels that way, as you said. With strangers that aren't total strangers it's a bit different, I think."

And yes honestly Frog should've probably let the conversation die. It was bound to end eventually anyways, but he somewhat liked being able to be so blatant with this guy. It gave him a feel of freedom. And he kind of felt they were similar, at least to a point. "I wouldn't have expected that either. But I don't regret keeping it on life support for now~"

Cecil makes an expression of mock offence. "Life support!" He gasps melodramatically. "How dare you! I will have you know that...pffft." He grins, shaking his head. "Nope, can't keep that up, let alone when it's so accurate to most of my conversations. Well - if you can call them that."
"Got to be honest..." The burst of mirth faded away as the relaxed smile of Cecil's usual facade settled into place. "It's nice having someone to talk to, let alone someone I don't have to try and dance around the sensitivities of. That's...that's always fun." He shrugs, smirking. "Not that you care, do you? I'm just rambling again."

For a moment...Frog was actually worried he'd struck some kinda cord with Cecil. Maybe he had someone who was on life support or something, and it wouldn't have been the first time one of his jokes managed to piss someone off when he 'took it too far'. Not that a funny remark was 'taking it too far' in Frog's eyes, but people were generally idiots. Thankfully Cecil was only fucking around. Didn't help to remove the momentary raised brow and a grimace from Frog.

Cecil was opening up slightly, Frog could sense it. The guy was just as deprived as he himself was. And now he was gonna start assuming things and being blunt with him. Hmmm...but if their bond grew, then eventually boundaries would need to be set in place.
How their interactions would look like then, Frog was kind of afraid of imagining.
"It's good to put it all out sometimes. People always say that you can tell them anything but they don't really mean it and nothing ever comes of it. I do kinda care because I feel the same way."

There's a little tweak to Cecil's lips at Frog's reply. "I wouldn't know. I mean, yeah, that sounds about right, but you really have to talk with a person that much in the first place for them to offer." He glances, away down into the corner of his eye. "They have their reasons, really. An expectation to make the offer, maybe, or maybe they just believe they'll handle it better than they actually can. They think what they like, but there's all these preconceptions and stuff whirling around their head, and sometimes even they don't know til something calls them up." He closes his eyes and shakes his head, sighing. "Be nice if we didn't have to deal with that, but it's what makes people."

Cecil shrugs, and opens his eyes, smiling wistfully. "Hope you mean what you're saying, at least. I'd rather not you pretend to care more than you do." He...wasn't sure how well he could deal with that.

Heh, Cecil went on to spell an essay to him on the topic. There wasn't any need to do that, yet it was rather interesting to listen to. Frog would imagine were he reading it instead of listening to a person he was starting to get relatively fond of, he'd have a much different opinion on the points the argument made. Thankfully he was listening to it. "Hey, I just know it usually didn't end very well for me. Especially with the family. You can tell them everything until you actually tell them what you mean and what you feel like. It's sick."

And there were expectations already, just as he'd guessed. Cecil wanted him to be honest, which just made it all the more difficult to be honest. As soon as something was expected and wanted, it became a chore to Frog. He could ask how high when someone told him to jump, but he couldn't actually bring himself to jump without any reasoning behind what was being wanted of him. As soon as a reason was present, he could do it. "Iunno. The only way to see is to actually live and interact." He chuckled and sighed. "But yeah, what I said just now, I meant it."
