The Best of Steeds [Cecil]

Living out by the countryside had its great deal of benefits. The air was nice and fresh, you avoided most of the stress from the city life, and while people lived relatively far away from eachother, the community around here was tightly knit. Everyone who lived in East Eden knew eachother on some basic level. Some had of course more developed friendships, but everyone was pretty nice and friendly, something which Luzia was quite happy with. She was welcomed into the group with wide open arms, and now was pretty much a part of the family. She often visited the Lexaco Ranch, as she had grown quite fond of the Robinsons, not to mention their horses. Having grown up on a farm, Luzia was quite familiar with, and comfortable being around the noble steeds, and she was slowly starting to get to know the horses here. She often swung by on days where she had no other obligations, helping the older couple with taking care of the horses.

On occasion, Luzia even got to ride them around the pen. She insisted on paying full price for it, despite the Robinsons insistance on giving her a small discount. "No, I'm paying full price. It just doesn't feel right, Ms. Robinson." Was the way she often replied, or at least something to that effect. It just didn't sit well with her paying less when she knew just how tough it was making a living on the countryside, being an apple farmer herself.

Today was one such day, where she would spend most of her time on horseback. She had flown herself up on a brown horse, elegantly strutting over the grass, with a bright smile on her face, as her hair swayed side to side in rhythm with the horse's movements.

This time, this time he wouldn't back off. He wouldn't end up being an awkward mess that just sat in the grass til someone stumbled on by. He was doing this.
The level of grief Ankou would give him if he managed to fuck this up again now that he was on the job was not at all worth it.
So he approached the ranch to...find...
...that was a horse. Somebody was riding a horse.
They had horses here? He was pretty sure before there weren't any horses.

Cecil kind of froze at that point, staring out across the ranch to see just what the hell else he'd somehow managed to miss.

"Easy, boy..." Luzia gently stroked the horse's tuft of hair in an effort to slow the horse down a little bit, as she had noticed her onlooker. She steered the steed over to him, strutting happily up to the wooden fence, smiling brightly at the young man, while the horse snorted bitterly towards Cecil. "You looking for the Robinsons?" Luzia asked politely, eager to help, and quite amused by the look of shock on the boy's face. Had he never seen a horse before? "You... Okay there? You're looking kind of pale." She asked, slightly concerned, unsure of what exactly had spurred such a reaction to begin with.

"GAH!"

That was starting to become a catchphrase.

Cecil stumbles back as the presence of someone talking registers.
Also the horse. It was one thing not seeing them on the ranch, but not noticing the one he'd just seen walk. Right. Up to him was embarrassing.
"Ah-ay-um-agh-er-aghkl..." Words words words were the fuck were the "Ugh...sorry. Just...not paying attention. Really not paying attention it seems." He buries his face into his palm, groaning and muttering something demeaning about himself that wasn't exactly intelligible to human ears.

Luzia chuckled lightly. "No, it's okay. Just take a deep breath and collect yourself." He was probably just nervous. For what reason, she didn't know, but Luzia didn't want to make things any worse... at least, not on purpose. Besides, he looked a little bit too young for her anyway. "Hehe, it's quite alright. Now, you needed something, young man?" She asked. The horse gave Cecil a somewhat judging look, snorting in his direction again, and started to restlessly stomp around with his hooves.

Sighing and shaking his head, he just looks up. "Came to volunteer to help out. Instead, I'm being surprised by the things I see right in front of me being there. Truly, an inspiration." A dark, wry smile creeps onto his lips as he develops a dry tone. "My powers of observation truly know no bounds."
