A Look [Cadets Only]

It was too much to hope for anything from school. Everything went as exactly as expected as a bland usual school day. Few things in general education interested him and it didn't fail to disappoint to fill his entire morning and afternoon with boring lectures. He still had one night to look forward to and it couldn't come even faster than the young man wanted.

Free time was on his schedule. But he was required to stay in school for additional classes and none of them was just as dull as the last. What even was the point of coming here? He didn't forget why and he was looking at it through the corridor's glass window with a resting elbow on the sill.

Class Zero was a place of mystery and respect. His brothers held hushed whispers of gratitude and reverence for them. But Joseph didn't see anything different about them from your dead-beat cop except all the pomp and benefits to serving the Queen.It made him wonder though what the 'top' looked like. What status and power looked like from a lofty perch.

Though Athena was always popular in school she had become practically a national level celebrity after becoming a cadet, now people didn't just admire her, they also feared her. Everyone wanted to be her friend, or at least on her good side. She had even began feeling bored at school, at least before she joined the cadet she found some pleasure in her petty rivalries or the traditional high school schemes, at the very least Athena knew she was a much better "face" for the cadet organization than her fellow classmates.

At that moment Athena was enjoying a moment of peace at the school's garden, she had decided to skip class with the excuse of some casting she was supposed to attend, though if the casting was real she would still ditch it. At that moment she was browsing through her messages in her cellphone not really paying attention to her surroundings.

It was only a few hours away before that moment of truth. He wondered what it'd be like to fail and found himself recoiling from that thought. Failure had no place for him. He needed to succeed and climb up the ranks. He needed to reach higher than where his brothers are and higher than where his parents resided. Joseph was about to leave elsewhere, but his eye caught someone down below. While this was his first day at school, he remembered hearing about the hushed and respected names of the recent Cadets and one of such was idling by.

He pondered as he stood there. As a current outsider, he lacked much knowledge of how the Cadets functioned or what their lives were like. Popularity was a given, but that was a thin veneer. Kerrigan began to descend down the stairs to enter the same gardens. "Hey (Bitch), you're from the Cadets, aren't you? Is this a bad time to bother you? I want to ask you something about the corps (your girl scouts)."

Athena noticed the boy who had approached her though that didn't stop her from looking at it, until the cadets got mentioned what was he a fanboy or a possible new recruit? The cadet did her best to fight the urge to roll her eyes as she set her cell aside. "That is correct, I'm Athena Griva member of the Cadet. I'm surprised you haven't seen me before almost everyone here knows me... then again not all of us can keep track of all those celebrities am I right?" Athena would smile at him before continuing "So, how can I help you?"

Just as much as Joseph was an vain asshole, there was a saying that "it took one to know one". This really applied to him, or at least he thought. Even from one look off the Cadet, he already thought she was a superficial woman. Maybe he could be wrong. Whether or not he was right, that didn't matter much. "It's my first day at school here. Was there an announcement on recruitment?"

"That is correct, those who wish to join the ranks of the cadet need only to apply." Athena rested her chin on her hand "Of course the ritual that makes one a cadet is not for the faint of heart. Should I assume your interest in the cadets is more than simply academic?" Athena knew how attractive the title of cadet could appear to people, she only joined because of the prestige it offered after all. "It's alright, you can tell me everything."

Not for the faint of heart, she says. Joseph heard there was a test or maybe an examination that was required from the rumors circulating among the students. A ritual was different, but maybe that was an euphemism for the tests required. He didn't really trust this pink-headed Cadet after what she just said. But it's not like he was hiding anything horrible or anything.

"Family reasons, traditions. Everyone had to serve the community at some point in their lives. Now they're sending me to the Cadets. It's nothing special. Is the ritual a kind of test or examination?"
