Shinji:

He’s about 5 ft, 9 in. Tall, and weighs about 180lbs. He is like his father, skinny, and a lightweight for his age. The fancy outfit he wears is distinctive, and he’s fond of it due to the amount of class it suggests to him. Anyone who calls it old-fashioned to him, is simply behind on the times: considering what Junction is, there is no such thing as ‘Old-Fashioned’. The earrings he wears are his personal choice. Insult them at your peril.

Personality:
Shinjiro is, at a glance, a vain, selfish, person with sociopathic tendencies. This is not entirely wrong. As a child, he was a gifted learner from an academic point of view, but he was a very, very slow learner when it came to social skills, something that caused him to become an outcast to the other children. As a result, he tends to get bored easily, due to him being able to pick up a knack for most things far quicker than most other people, and also tends to freely state exactly what he thinks of people without bothering to consider their feelings. He also doesn’t do good things for the sake of doing good either, only doing things like that because he either has something to gain, or else he’s just doing it because he simply can.

An example of his lack of social understanding would be if he were to analyze just why people like something. Take a fairy tale about a knight saving a princess from a dragon for example. He could deliver an detailed in-depth analysis on it on all the details, but if you asked him to describe why he thinks people root for the knight to save the princess, he wouldn’t be able to give you an exact answer. Nor would he be able to empathize with why the knight wants to save the princess at such intense risk to himself.

To him, it’s one more stale cliche story with a cliche plot. He doesn't understand why people will always root for the knight and empathize with him, after all, to him, the knight’s triumph is already assured because that’s how the story works. Why listen to the same story again when you already know how it ends?

The fact that he tends to think of himself as smarter than most people is because he possess a P.h.D in literature. To him, most other people are boring idiots, and he only really bothers to talk fairly nicely to people that either a.) have something to offer, or b.) he finds interesting. He posses quite a bit of creativity as well, something that he puts mainly to use when it comes to annoying people.

Even if they’re the latter, he doesn’t tell them everything when it comes to something, expecting them to play along and understand because if he doesn’t tell them something, it’s something that he figures that they don’t need to know. This, combined with a tendency to get into trouble because of his actions, means that he’s usually at the center of some sort of fine mess that happens because of him (not that he’d ever admit it…). Although he has yet to be involved in anything illegal, and he takes such things in stride, seeing it as more experience for the books.

When he speaks, he either does it in a brief, to-the-point, exasperated manner that’s a clear sign he’s annoyed (complete with hand gestures), or he does so in a annoyingly elaborate way, finding ways to use antiquated english words to convey an otherwise simple statement. He does the latter when he wants to annoy someone just to see how they react out of curiosity. He is capable of speaking normally though if he has to. He also has odd ways of referring to things (for example, if he called someone baldy even though they have a ton of hair, he’s cursing them to go bald immediately) which makes perfect sense to him, but little sense to most others. He tends to introduce himself as a doctor, and as a regular human being in a surprisingly sane manner. He also has a tendency to up front state exactly what he thinks, although that’s not to say that lying is beyond his capacity to do when he sees fit.

Deep down, deep within him, though he’d never admit it publically (as he is now), he really is irritated with himself about what it is that makes others dislike him. To him, it’s a mystery, something he doesn’t understand why, and one that he’s been aware of for a very long time, and it drives him crazy because he doesn’t understand it. One particular incident in his youth as well made this question all the more prevalent in his head. As such, he buries it to forget about that, and anyone who tries to dredge it up will quickly wear thin on his patience. Time will tell if he ever understands why… and if he changes for the better because of it.

In a surprising amount of idealism for him, though, even though he has no real understanding of the feelings involved in love, he figures he’ll know it when he comes across it and experiences it for himself and know what they are. Well, that is, if what he’s heard about love is true (which in his mind, it is.). However he tends to view love in darwinian terms when it comes to a relationship; as to him, so long as two people are genetically compatible, able to understand each other perfectly, and have the same (or at least similar) goals, they should marry.

As such, he’s more than likely to run into someone who he thinks he’s fallen in love with due to stimuli similar to what he's read, and then skip straight to the proposal part because he thinks the feelings are mutually reciprocated. This of course has all sorts of problems attached to it. He doesn't know what love is in terms of recognizing the feelings involved in it.

He likes anything that interests him, which are original ideas, things he can’t solve, libraries, playing the piano, annoying people to see their reactions, and the people/things behind them (because they too must be interesting. He dislikes boredom, repetition, requests of what to play, annoying people, and the things he can’t solve as well as the people behind them (because it drives him crazy).

He does however care more about his parents than most other people, if only because they raised him and gave him a good life. As such, he considers himself obligated to help them out when he has to. He considers and does appreciate that they do worry about him as a sign that they do indeed appreciate him judging from what he's read.

He has also has a very loose code of honor in general. The contents of which entail that he always repays a debt with due compensation, never let others see him as an inferior (i.e, pity them), and that above all, to seek answers in the name of expanding his knowledge.

When it comes to food, he isn’t picky, so long as it’s not garbage or otherwise inedible things. His favorite type of characters in novels are those who embody deconstruction in their archetype, considering a well done one the perfect example of why such things are impossible (or at least highly unlikely) in reality. A poorly done one however, would draw nothing but his ire due to it being a plain insult to the concept.

His past of being bitten by a Vampirius is a very touchy subject to him. While it did give him odd powers, he dislikes remembering it due to the trauma he associates with it. He knows he has the powers though, and doesn't use them because they would expose him for what he is. They never caught the Vampirius responsible for it, but if Shinji met him again, they'd clash for sure. Shinji also has a dislike of Vampirius in general due to this, yet ironically, he also shows an extremely strong interest in them. This is also why he predominantly prefers blue: Blue is the color vampirius fear because Blue Moons cause even the strongest Vampirius to become weak and feeble. The “curse” in question he hides mainly because using it would attract undue attention.

The girl who confessed to him all those years ago is a person he's particularly eager to meet again. Not because he's attracted to her mind you. But simply because he's curious as to what exactly motivated those feelings all those years ago…
and because the answer is one he's never gotten yet. If he ever meets her, he'd first ask her who she is… and then why she confessed her feelings for him all those years ago. As from what he's read, most girls don't forget their first crush.

There is almost nothing he wouldn't do if it meant there was something of interest in it for him. If he had to kill, for example, he would kill without hesitation because at that point, that was the only outcome: why bother regretting it?

He figures that the mysteries of Junction will more than likely need a degree of unscrupulous activity to do, and is more than willing to do such things, or ask others to do them, with due compensation of course. After all, such is the way of business, no?

—Description: It’s not that Shinji’s entirely smart, per se, it’s just that he’s an incredibly fast learner when it comes to academic studies. As a result, what took others years to learn he could do in months, what took others months took days, etc. As such, he is capable of easily learning whatever he has to in order to accomplish what he must.

—Strength Name: Creative Thinking:
—Description: Shinji is just as creative and freethinking as his father, preferring to refer to his thinking as ‘nonlinear’ because to him, everything can be used (except stupid people) to his advantage. You just have to know how. As such, he is easily capable of finding ways to solve problems that others might not have solved so easily.

—Strength Name: Fast Runner
—Description: Making people mad is something one must learn to run from to avoid painful retaliation. As such, Shinji can travel twice as fast in dungeons.

—Strength Name: Gifted Writer’s Hands:
—Description: The hands of a gifted writer are highly dextrous from the fingers to the hands. As a result, in combat, Shinji can strike twice with his soulbound.

—Strength Name: Grand Pianist:
—Description: Like his father, Shinji also took to the piano as well, something that with his talent he had no problem doing.

—Description: Shinji’s 'curse' is that his body is far stronger than a normal human's would be, and closer to the strength like that of a martial artist's due to the curse causing the muscles in his hands to develop much more strength than normal. This translates in his dex attacks doing 15% additional damage.

—Weakness Name: Lack of Social Development:
—Description: With the increase in his learning ability, he lost a good deal of his ability to pick up more subtle social cues, other than lying. He can try and ‘fake’ understanding of people, but overall, he is incredibly out of tune with reading others. As such, he has a hard time making friends.

—Weakness Name: Easily Bored:
—Description: He is easily bored though. He’ll toy with an idea with a sense of glee, then get bored with it. This happens so often, that the second something catches his curiosity, he'll investigate it relentlessly, something that has led him into trouble before.

—Weakness Name: Arrogant:
—Description: Due to Shinji’s personality, unless you have a rank 3 or higher social link, he will not let them take a hit meant for him. He considers it bad manners due to his loose code of honor, as that means that they consider him inferior and deserving of protection out of pity rather than mutual respect.

—Description: He, like his father, has vision problems, though. He wears contacts though to counteract this. Without them, his eyesight is bad to the point where he may as well be all but blind (he’s very nearsighted). In combat, he has trouble aiming, so he has a 20% base chance to miss in combat.

—Description: All things have an exception. Drawing is one of those exceptions. For all his great hands and mind afford him, his drawing skill is abysmal, like his father’s. He has no desire to improve it, though, as to him, he paints pictures with words rather than lines.

—Description: Due to his Vampirius curse, he inherited one of the weaknesses of the Vampirius (though not to nearly as severe a degree): he takes 15% more damage from magic. Mainly because Vampirius as a whole are vulnerable to magic, due to the energy it gives off being connected (and associated with in their culture) to the blue moon, which weakens them.

Weapon Description:It’s about 5 inches tall, 2 inches wide, and having a length of 5 inches. It has a blue leather cover adorned with a bright blue gem and jet black pages. Attached to the book is a silver chain with clockwork pieces. The exact contents of the book are unknown to all but him, but he can use it as a deadly weapon when thrown that returns automatically to his hand after.

The Background

History:
Born to Takeru Kagemaru and Melodia Fujita in the Skies of Junction, Shinjiro was, from the time he was young, a gifted learner. What took others years to learn he could do in months, what took others months took days, etc.
His parents couldn't be prouder of this, but grew worried for their child, who became easily bored, and very distant from other children, considering them to be lower than him. In the process, he never really learned how to properly function socially, meaning that what social cues children learned in months took him years, what took them weeks took months for him, and so forth. At first, he didn’t want to really associate with others because of the above, since they had nothing to offer him.

However because of this ability to learn on an academic level, he was only a mere ten years old before he started college looking for a degree in literary studies, graduating when he was only 14 with a P.h.D. (his thesis was on the subject of Shakespearean literature).
It was also when he decided to give social interaction a chance.

When he was about 10 years old,he was abducted by a Vampirius, a Vampiric race of beings extremely similar to the vampires we know. This one, calling himself Vainius, was a serial kidnapper and murderer of children to satisfy his wicked appetite, chose to dine on Shinji. He would have become a victim of the killer if it weren't for the police managing to raid Varius base mid-feeding. After this, Shinji began to manifest an odd effect: when he touched another living thing with his bare hands, it would find itself weakened greatly. A phenomena known as a “Vampirius curse” that only manifested to a few people.
He attended therapy for a year, still choosing to press ahead with his studies.

Once, when he was about 12 years old, a girl around his age tried to ask him out, having apparently developed a crush on him. She was nervous, and he was apparently her first crush. He doesn't remember her name because she was stuttering through it.

What he told her in response was “Why?”.
He didn't understand why she then ran off crying. Even today he doesn't get why, and perhaps through interaction with others he figures he can figure out why.

Since then, he’s started looking for a teaching position at a local university as well as focusing on writing a book on the mysteries of Junction, which there are more than enough of for him to write about, to him. He’s also started playing the piano since he was six years old.
Time will tell if he manages to succeed in that...
