PostSubject: Lazy Cat Nap [Moonie]   Wed Sep 28, 2016 3:35 pm

After the recent days of hectic work loads that had left the Heartfelt Bakery almost out of stock, Zavie's parents had to leave early morning to Ease Eden to get the massive amount of ingredients they needed to restock their shelves. The store was closed today because of that, and because the boy was so behind in school, he had to stay home.

This didn't bother him too much though. It meant he could spend time with his cats today! He happily sat on one of the make shift houses the boy had hastily made for the cats to live in. The neighbors didn't mind the enclosures as long as the cats never got out of control or the houses didn't block their doors or trash cans. And, also, that the cats stays well behaved.

They had gotten quite antsy lately... Mainly because the boy hand't had enough time to talk to them! And feed them... They definitely wanted food. And so the boy placed nice bowls of tuna, milk, water, and normal cat food around him, the twenty something cats happily enjoying the meals. The boy sat there with a book on his lap, a note book on the side of it that didn't have the math questions on it. He wasn't aloud to cheat... But math was hard.

"So... Do you know what the answer to this question is? No...? I thought so..."

He'd ask a cat that cuddled next to his leg. He knew what it had said, but it more so looked like he was talking to himself with the mundane question. Maybe one of the employees of the neighboring stores would come out and help him? That'd be wishful thinking, though... Oh well. The hat wearing boy would just simply do his best at math while surrounded by cats.

Oddly enough, for being a giant intimidating wolf made of metal, animals didn't seem to run away from him like they did from humans or other large animals. He figured it was because him, being inorganic, was "hidden" so to speak from the sixth sense that most animals had that let them know when there was somebody else nearby. In fact, some animals such as cats and dogs often mistook him for simple machinery; Cats would try to take naps on him or climb him, and dogs... well, let's not talk about that.

That being said, this supposedly "abandoned" alleyway didn't seem quite as abandoned as the millions of other alleyways that Selenus used to get around Endymion undetected. A lot of cats had been brushing up against him for a while, and there seemed to even be houses for them. Maybe someone was keeping them as pets? The thought was endearing, but it also meant that the robot wolf was prone to run into somebody here.

And run into someone he did. As he turned a corner, Selenus laid his eyes upon a familiar face. It was the boy he saw during the Eternal Divide! He remembered that Professor J. mentioned him once or twice while he was repairing him. Zavie Bryce, was his name. He figured that if the boy was working with 8D, Callie and J., then he could trust him just as well to keep him a secret.

Silently approaching the boy from behind, Selenus would take a quick glance at his homework and speak up. "The answer is 392."

If the cats didn't sense any danger from the metallic dog, neither would the boy. The cats wouldn't even mind his existence, and the boy would have no real notice of its approach. The boy would simply doddle on the question he was on, algebra was always hard... And it didn't make a lot of sense. Like, what exactly was... B doing inside of a math problem?

"Three hundred and ninety-two? Are you sure? It seems to be... Um... I do not really know..." the boy would sigh as he stared at the math problem, patting the cat he assumed told him the answer. He really didn't like how lame math was... Why couldn't he study fashion? Or music? That was so much better!

"When did you get so smart at math though? Do you know a math genius near here?" the boy would ask the fluffy black cat with a light tilt of his head. He smiled warmly before writing down the answer on his notebook. Hopefully that was the right answer... Cats weren't known for their math experience... More so their cunning nature and the network of information the boy could gather from them... If he really cared about finding things important...

Did he think his voice was coming from that cat? That was... odd, to put it lightly. What kind of cat had his deep voice? Or could even talk, for that matter? Well, it was amusing, if nothing else. Selenus figured he'd just keep talking. Eventually he'd notice that the voice he was hearing wasn't coming from the caught he thought it did. "I'm pretty sure. If it'll make you comfortable, I can explain how I got that answer." Not like it was complicated enough to warrant an explanation, though. It was simple algebra! Maybe he just didn't understand the function of variables? That seemed to be the most usual mistake children committed when being introduced to algebra.

"Well... I guess you could say that." If his inner CPU calculator counted as a math genius, then it technically wasn't a lie. He chuckled. "What're you doing here though? Aren't you supposed to be tending to your bakery's customers? Grins insisted I drop by sometime several times, despite the fact that he knows perfectly well that I physically can't eat anything." In all honesty, it felt more like 8D was taunting him over the fact that he couldn't experience food like a human could.

The boy would sigh once again. He really didn't caaaaare about the math problem. He just wanted to get it done. Maybe he could nap some... Oh, that would be awesome! He could just pile all of his pillows on his bed and sleep in the cushiony soft mess of it all! Oh, and he could get some blankets from the linen closet! Aaaah...

"Aaah... Pillows sound comfortable about now... What do you think? Should we go take a cat nap instead? You all have been doing really great work for me! I think we all deserve it." the boy would say with a happy smile and nod of his head. He'd look down at the cats as they'd look up at him, some mewing responses and others speaking with their eyes. Animals didn't always have to be vocal too talk... Most of the time they used their bodies to do it for them.

"Huh? That is a silly question, Sparky... You know my parents are out right now... Plus... You have no-" the boy would look down at the black cat he had thought was talking before realizing he was doing no such thing. In an instant the boy would leap forward with the agility of a cat, spinning around to look at the metal dog with wide eyes.

"V-Vassal, not one of the cats paid attention to that abomination! Keep your guard up! That can not be an ally!" the boy's shadow would warn as he'd stay low to the ground, ready to pounce in an opposite direction at a whim's notice. The cats, startled by the sudden movement of their master, would take notice of the metal android for what he was and begin hissing at him in front of him. Twenty strong, from kittens too elders.

"W-What are you!? H-How do you know Grins!? I-I... I will not hesitate to fight you!"

If the platoon of cats hissing at him was supposed to intimidate him, they failed miserably. In fact, it was downright adorable. What were cats gonna do, meow him to death? If they tried to scratch or bite him the durability of the metal comprising his body would make sure their claws broke. "Oh, come on, kid." Selenus stuck out like a guy in a fursuit at a business meeting when in public, how could he not remember him? Come to think of it, Callie didn't seem to remember him either... this might be worth pouring some investigation into. "Don't you remember me? We met five years ago. You tried to pet me, I let you, and things went really downhill from there." He didn't exactly feel like throwing around the words "Eternal Divide" was a good idea in front of a child, even if said child was at the heart of it when it happened. "Grins was a watch back then, and Callie was there too, I believe."

"Look Zavie, let's calm down. I'm not here to hurt you." If anything had changed from the last time they met, the boy had certainly become more feisty. Though, his first instinct five years ago was to pet him and now it was to fight him? What happened there? "And before you ask how I know your name, Proffessor J. told me." That hissing was starting to get really annoying. "So now that you know I'm not an enemy, could you please tell your friends to calm down?"

The boy stayed quiet. To be quite honest he didn't remember much of the Divide... He had nightmares about it... A lot of nightmares... But, he only remembered very faint things. Callie, Raia, those terrifying noises, and fearing for his family's life. It was all so terrifying, honestly... But, he was so young then, how could he possibly remember everything that had happened and transpired? But... This thing knew everything... Down to the letter...

"I-I... Do not think I should trust you... How do I know you are not just an enemy? This could all just be a ploy to... D-Do something to me." he'd say in a not very strongly confident tone. While he was somewhat confident he was from the government, if he wasn't, then he couldn't just give him information about himself... If he did, then only bad things would happen.

"Mmn... Prove to me you are not an enemy then." the boy would say simply, the cats ending their hissing but staying ready to pounce the machine at a moment's notice. It was true they couldn't really damage the beast effectively... But there was more they could do that damage it. They were cats, after all.

The silence that bringing up the words "five years ago" summoned upon the boy did not go unnoticed by Selenus. He assumed it had, in part, to do with the unpleasant memories that dretched themselves up whenever the subject was brought up. Selenus found it hard to relate to people who feared the Eternal Divide so much since, by the time it happened, Selenus had already seen much worse. Nevertheless, he could understand how bringing it up had made Zavie uncomfortable, so he decided to refrain from mentioning it again for now.

"Do what to you, exactly?" Zavie's distrust of him was starting to take its toll on his morale and his patience. He knew he was intimidating at first sight, but being polite snapped most people out of thinking of him as a threat. Not that he had any real effective wat of proving himself as an ally. Except maybe... "Look Zavie: No offense, but if I'd wanted to do something to you, I would've done it already. Think about it: I was standing right behind you and neither you nor your cats had noticed me. Don't you think I would've taken that chance to do "something" to you?" He was sure that his logic was easy to follow, even to someone as skeptical as Zavie. "Besides, if I wanted to hurt you, why would I have tried to start a conversation and on top of that helped you with your math homework?"

"S-So... Y-You are not an enemy...?"

The boy didn't really know how to process this all... It was quite surreal to be talking to a robotic dog and not have it attack him... While he thought about it, wasn't Grins being chased by robotic dogs as well? Was this one of them...? But, did Grins have robotic dogs back then...? This was so confusing...

"I-I am sorry... I just... I am sorry..." the boy would say with a gentle sigh. He definitely didn't know how to react much... But it would be fine... Right? Right.

Selenus sighed in relief "It's fine, I'm used to people being afraid of me. Trust me, I'm intimidating, I get it." Though he insisted that it was fine, it really wasn't... but politeness always came first. "I'm Selenus. It's nice to see you again, Zavie." Though he tried to put on a cheerful tone (and it would've worked on most people) somebody with enhanced hearing would be able to hear the very small portion of his tone of voice that revealed how he was lightly offended. "Anyway, how have you been?" The robot canine would ask "It's been a long time since I last saw you. I understand you're working for Grins now, or something like that?" He didn't pay much attention to the details of it.

"What's with all these cats?" Now that he noticed, the cats had stopped hissing at him when Zavie had started to listen to reason. Did he somehow have control over them? "Do they live here? I noticed the many houses I'm assuming you made them all around this alleyway. What, does your mom not let you keep pets?" That seemed like the most rational explanation at the moment.

The boy would listen quietly, but, quite frankly, he heard past the robotic dog's facade. His ears carefully tucked under his hat picked up on the slight offense as if it was clear as day. The boy would gasp, the realization of what he truly did catching up to him. H-He didn't mean to be mean! It's just, what if he was a cadet spy drone thing that wanted to kill hiiiiiiiim!

"A-Aaaaah! I am sooooorry! D-Do not... H-Haaaate meeee!"

He'd cry loudly, the cats flooding over to him as he cried. He felt awful that he had been so mean to the robotic dog! It hadn't been intentional at all! H-He was just scared that bad things were about to happen... Oh, this was just terrible...

Proxy, on the other hand, was mad... Though, she was always quite mad to begin with, but when Zavie became emotional, it was usually torture on her presence in his mind. The overflowing emotions poured into her part of their shared consciousness and it wasn't fun... At all. It hurt and made her emotional and it wasn't exactly enjoyable for either party.

Regardless, after a while with or without Selenus's coursing, Proxy would get the boy to calm down in a few minutes. She had gotten used to calming him down when he was sad, or afraid... It was practically a full time job to keep him out of her side of the mind...

"I-I... Am sorry... R-Really, truly sorry for being mean... I-I did not mean to be so mean..." he'd apologize in a more calm tone. It was really hard to just return to a bubbly mood after crying so hard like that... But he felt so bad about being mean to Selenus...

"T-These... Um, these are the Kitty Cat Mercenaries! They are all my friends... And they live back here because they would get in the way inside the bakery if they lived inside... I-I take really good care of them though! Promise!" he'd say with a small smile. Hopefully that made sense... He really didn't know what else to say... But he really loved cats and he took excellent care of them! They were the happiest cats in all of Endymion!

Selenus's life up to this point, though short, had prepared him for quite a multitude of scenarios: He could fight, sneak, negotiate, investigate, socialize and do a miriad other things with ease. What he was not prepared to carry out, however, was succesfully comforting a crying child. He could barely handle happy children, and now he had no choice but to handle something much, much more difficult. He wasn't exactly built for coddling; Hell, he had to remove several parts of his body just to hug Nola when she got upset over her influence in the world without inflicting her with multiple stab wounds.

Selenus would simply approach Zavie slowly and sit beside him. "There there... it's fine, really. I'm used to people having extreme reactions to me. Most people either love me or hate me. I've come to terms with the fact that there's usually no grey area with first impressions when it comes to me." He would use the wires on his tail to rub Zavie's back. It was the least he could do without bringin serious physical harm to him other than nuzzling him. "Look, if you want to make it up to me, then stop crying. I'm starting to feel bad over you feeling bad for making me feel bad."

Seeing Zavie apologizing so sadly even after he'd told him it was fine was heartwrenching. "I already said it was fine, Zavie. No need to apologize. I know it wasn't your intention." This time he was being completely honest. If Selenus had thought that Zavie had been intentionally making him feel bad, he would've walked out on him mid-conversation, not wanting to waste his time on such people. But he didn't, that's why he stayed to comfort him. "Look, I forgive you. Just cheer up, alright?"

"Kitty cat... mercenaries?" For some reason when he uttered those words, he couldn't stop thinking about a bunch of anthropomorphic kitties covered in bandages holding daggers and guns. "That's an odd name to give to a clowder. What, do they steal stuff for you?" Selen us chuckled at his own joke. He wondered if the word "clowder" might've been unfamiliar vocabulary to Zavie, but... he seemed to know his cats well, so maybe he was versed in cat terminologies? "I'll take your word for it. They look really happy, at any rate."

The boy would sniff and rub his eyes, nodding his head and putting on a small smile. It wouldn't do to make Selenus feel bad too... So, with a few last sobs, he'd laugh softly. He didn't like being sad... Proxy hated it when he was sad... But, he couldn't help it at times. So much had happened, been happening... He was so scared every second of the day! The smallest push broke him down now a days...

"A-Alright... Thank you." he'd respond with a nod of his head. He didn't want to stay sad any longer... At least for the moment. Proxy was exhausted from the emotional toil and he didn't want to make Selenus unhappy. So, with a determined shake of his head, he'd put on a warm smile.

"Hm? Oh, of course not... They are just all my friends. They came up with the name them selves." he'd say with a light puff of his cheeks. He never really understood his cats all the time... He would've been okay with not naming them all... But, they wanted to be the Kitty Cat Prince's something... So mercenaries they became.

"They do bring me stuff though. You know, when a cat likes you a lot they bring you little gifts. W-When it is not a dead animal, I put it on a shelf in my bedroom." he'd say with a nod of his head. It was generally quite awful when they brought him a dead bird or rodent... It made him sad seeing an animal like that killed by one of his cats... But they were hunters, and they didn't solely rely on him for food... But the fact they did it /for/ him sometimes upset him. He told them not to do it unless he specifically asked for it though.

Selenus was pretty sure that animals weren't capable of naming things, or that they could even comprehend the concept of a verbal name, for that matter, but over the course of the last few days he'd seen much, much stranger, so Selenus would let it slide for now. For all he knew these cats were also Persona Users. Wouldn't that be a laugh? "It might be in bad taste, but you do know that cats bring critter corpses to people they respect or love, right? It's how they share food with other cats, and for all they know everyone in the world is a cat, so though it might seem cruel they're trying to be loving." Leave it to the robotic dog to be an expert in cats, amirite?

"So, how have you been these past few years? Staying out of trouble, I hope?"

The boy's ears would gently perk up from under his hat, a light tilt from his head as he listened to Selenus. Well... He knew that quite well, after all, wasn't that the same thing he had just said? Well, maybe but maybe not? It was hard to tell some times... But it was safe to say he definitely wasn't used to people who knew just as much, if not more about cats than he did! It was a little odd, in his own personal opinion.

"Ah... Well, I suppose they are worried I am not eating enough. I tell them all the time I eat properly... M-Most of the time." the boy would say, thinking back to his breakfast of a jelly doughnut and the fish shaped candies he had snacked on the rest of the day. A fast metabolism helped him look fine... Er, for the most part... If anything, his diet of sweets made him smaller than most! Pure sugar goes through you quite fast, you know.

"Yes, I have... We moved though... Our old bakery... Mom and dad do not like to talk about it." he would say with a frown to his face. He didn't like thinking about that day... It had been such a happy late birthday present... Just for it to end so abruptly and terrifyingly. He still remembered the morning where he had dragged that poor foreign man all over the aquarium to find the fish he had been looking for.

"T-To be honest, I... Only like to think of the good things that happened that day... Like this charm bracelet." he'd say, holding up his right wrist, a charm bracelet consisting of a cat mermaid like charm, a small wooden fox charm, and a heart shaped charm. He had gotten the last one right before...

He went silent after a while, his face blank. He was... Remembering. He could hear that awful noise at the far edge of his mind. Proxy wasn't doing it... She knew not to play with the boy's feelings like this. Even she didn't find these particularly morbid memories necessary. Regardless though, he would stay quiet, seeming to be deep in thought. In a way he was though... Completely focused on pushing that horrible memory deep... Deep down.
