**ALERT!** After a rather eventful evening at Maksim's Party, three teenagers seems to have gone missing. The doors of Vault Olympia have been breached due to a to this day unknown assailant, who sabotaged the doors locking systems, allowing demons to make entry. Thanks to the excellent defensive capabilities of the Vault's Security drones, the Attack was put to an end, and the invading monsters fled to the outside. Right now, the Doors of Vault Olympia are currently open, allowing any survivors of the fall to seek shelter within the Vault's safe halls. What Vault Security officials think of this development remains unclear as the Chief of Police and Security of Olympia refused to leave a comment. This is Rianara, of Olympia news, signing out.

The site is entering a new era as our team of mods works tirelessly on updating old and obsolete information threads and links. Over the Summer, we aim to make many changes to the forum, including writing a comprehensive beginners' guide to help new players accommodate to the combat and other rp systems in place here.

PostSubject: The Difference a Second Makes (Open)   The Difference a Second Makes (Open) EmptySat Jul 09, 2016 9:41 pm

"No wait!" A desperate swipe of a pass turned into a desperate sprint. The stairs are completely bypassed by a long leap. It was a beautiful leap, except that he had flubbed the landing. What would have been a good running start turned into a rough roll. He was lucky, there is a lack of people in the station and the stairs are completely free so he has room to get back to her feet, but the lost time is what sticks out in his mind. He doesn't even give his surroundings a look as he makes for the last stretch.

But he's just a little too late. The fall had been costly.

There is a roar of noise as well as a rush of wind and the two things together ring out as a death toll for Judai.

"Aw nuts." Judai panted for breathe as he watched the train rush away, taking passengers away to their destination. Judai groaned and fell to his butt in exhaustion. He sees a few people giving him looks of pity, amusement, or just annoyance, but he could care less about that. He pulled out his phone and checked for the next departure time. He had a decent bit of time until the next train.

"Man... never lucky." No matter what way he looked at it, he's going to get home late for dinner. Judai punched out a quick text to his parents that he would be late and just collapsed onto his back. His legs burned from the dead sprint as well as the terrible jump down the stairs and as if to add insult to injury, his stomach decided to remind him that he would be missing dinner at this rate.

The loud grumbling of his stomach caused Judai to groan and throw an arm over his eyes. "Ugh... why~?"

The Difference a Second Makes (Open) 68HbnDf

"I-I am confused... Was this not the right stop...?"

The quiet voice of a confused boy said. This was the right stop, right? With a sigh, he'd quietly pull the wagon towards a wall, taking out his phone and texting his parents. It was obvious he had gotten separated from them... It was a shame, too. They rarely went on excursions like this to sell their goods in Sunlake Palms, but one wrong train ride had left the boy who knows where...

Though, with a steady buzz coming from his phone, a sigh escaped him. Luckily his parents weren't too far away via train. They'd be here soon, so... Might as well make the best of the situation. With a steady nod, the yukata and matching hat wearing boy would slowly unfold the blanket that was covering the wooden wagon he was pulling. With a few pulls and a final tug, it now looked like a mini bake sale!

With a final nod, the boy would pull out a little sign from under the blanket, it stating the fresh goods could be found at the Heartfelt Bakery and a the prices of the breads and sweets on display in the wagon. The boy would sigh, standing next to the wagon with a happy smile as he watched people walk by. This was a little weird... And kind of scary. He wasn't used to being alone, after all... But, he had Proxy at least, right?

"You put a lot of faith in something that can not even aid you at the present time..." the shadow would say dimly within the boy's mind, the bead chain tied into the boy's hair glittering faintly. She was honestly bored of all these people and all this selling of merchandise. It was honestly all this boy did next to read magazines and play with his unnecessarily large amount of pet cats... Albeit the latter had its more immediate perks.

"But you help me keep an eye on things... Plus I really am not alone with you always here." the boy would think back, silencing his shadow for the moment as she went about her usual business of keeping an eye out for possible dangers for the boy. She needed him alive, after all. Without him, she'd die and that wasn't something she wanted to happen.

"Well... Um... Baked goods for sale! We promise they are the best you will ever taste!" the boy would say in a fairly meek but upbeat voice. He did his best to try and entice people to even notice his goods, but it seemed the station was a bit to busy for that... Oh... What a complete and utter shame, you know?

If he was feeling honest, Judai wanted to sob a little bit. He had flubbed an awesome jump landing, embarrassed himself in public, missed his train, and he was feeling hungry. Luckily for Judai, he rarely felt the need to be completely honest. So he settled for silently bemoaning his terrible luck.

But luck has a tenancy to flip around. As Judai picked himself up and started a slow trudge towards a bench or something where he could waste his time on his phone or something, he heard the siren song of hope.

"Bake sale?" Judai's head picked up at the quiet advertisement. He looked around for the source of the call and found a small wagon turned stand sitting against one of the walls. People seemed to just be streaming by it.

Curious and hungry, Judai decided this needed to be investigated. He slipped past the streams of people walking through the metro and approached the stand. Rather than an old man or an old woman, there was a kid manning it. Judai gave the smaller boy a bemused look, taking in the yukata along with the stand. The entire thing looked like something that belonged in Little Tokyo and for that alone, Judai was definitely going to buy stuff here. The bakeries in Little Tokyo were the best.

"Yo." Judai gave the boy a friendly smile as he walked up, his hands shoved into his pockets leaning in to take a look at the baked goods. "Is there anything you recommend? I'm looking for something a bit more filling."

It really seemed like people were too busy to pay attention to his little bake stand. Oh, it was kind of disappointing... But, maybe it was for the best. If no one came over to buy anything, it meant he wouldn't be seen by anyone. That was basically that... It made Proxy happy, to say the least. She enjoyed not having anyone to over analyze at the given point in time. Peace and quiet... That was until she took notice of the man approaching the boy's bake sale. Why couldn't people just... Not exist?

The Difference a Second Makes (Open) AgdKBzZ

"Oh! Hello, welcome to the mobile Bryce Bakery stand!"

"Must you be so happy? Did we not want people to take notice of us...?"

The boy would say happily with a happy smile and his shadow brooding and huffing in annoyance. Honestly, how the two had as stable as a relationship as they did really didn't make much sense... Though, they literally couldn't survive without the other, so that probably played a rather large part in it.

"Hm? Oh, well... Oh! We have some quiche freshly made this morning! They may be a little cold now, but cold vegetables and cheese also tastes really good, you know." the boy would say with a happy smile. He loved making quiches, especially ones with fish in them... Mainly because he could get rid of the awful tasting meat out of their freezer and out the bakery's door. With how much the boy hated fish, he was really proficient in cooking it.

"If you do not like that, we also have some taiyaki with red bean paste in it, as well as some whole-gran and vegan muffins! I am sure you will like something here! Promise!" he'd say with another enthusiastic smile and with an upbeat personality. This was no different from working at the bakery, in all honesty... A little scarier, mind, but nothing he wasn't already used to!

"A quiche?" Judai tilted his head at the foreign term. He had heard the word before and he was (almost) sure that it was a food, but it really did not sound that appetizing. The fact that it would be cold made it less so, especially with cheese involved. Cold cheese was not a problem, cheese that had been melted and then let to cool tended to not agree with Judai's palette. "I think I'll pass on that one."

On the other hand, the last two had potential. There was nothing Judai loved more than a good baked good, but he had a partial weakness for muffins. They were his favorite breakfast food and quite possibly his favorite food. The fact that this little stand had muffins was almost a deal breaker, except for the words 'vegan' attached to them. Now, Judai had no problem with vegetarians or their more hardcore counterparts, but well, he liked his baked goods cooked with eggs, not egg substitutes. Oh the other hand... muffins.

Ultimately, the solution to Judai's problem had nothing to do with the muffins, but everything to do with the sellers choice in dress. The boy was dressed in a yukata, and in the privacy of his own mind, Judai admitted that the boy looked adorable in the outfit. Damn his weakness for cute things. So obviously, the right choice was to honor the seller's dress and Judai's own nationality with some Japanese baked goods.

"I think I'll take some taiyaki." Judai nodded to himself. "Yeah, that sounds good right about now."

Taiyaki? Well, great then! Taiyaki was shaped like a fish, so it automatically made anything sweet like taste fifty times better! That was how that worked, right? The boy didn't really know, after all, he was still quite young and filled with silly fantasies and ideas that didn't make much sense to people besides him. But, with a nod and a smile he'd grab a small paper bag from under the blanket and scoop up one of the taiyaki in it, closing the bag and nodding his head.

"Alright! Um... This will be six dollars, sir!" the boy would say cheerfully. A decent price for the large taiyaki in the bag, plus, it was homemade and freshly baked! What more could you ask for? Regardless, the boy would await his payment, a happy smile on his face constantly.

"You could stand to be a tad more cautious. This man may not be as nice as he seems." the shadow would warn with a very lazed voice. She found human interactions dull and pointless. It bored her to no end that her vassal was so charismatic... He could be a little less talkative and a little more on guard in case of another random demon attack.

"But he is not a demon and he does not look scary..." the boy would muse quietly. This situation was already scary... Plus, that night was a one time thing, right? It was like the Divide. Things like that never happened twice. It took him a while to think that way... But, he didn't have to be scared as long as he wore a hat and stayed at home. Right?

"Mmm, alright." Judai accepted with a lazy shrug. That seemed a bit pricey for some Taiyaki, but oh well. Judai was hungry enough that he was not really thinking about the price. He paid for his snack and received it with relish. Taking a bite out of his fish shaped snack, Judai hummed appreciatively as he ate the bread.

"So... do you open up shop around here often? I can't say I've ever seen this thing open here before."
Judai asked the stall owner in between bites. "With the travel cart and how you're dressed, this seems more appropriate for the streets rather than the station."

It also felt a bit odd that no one else was buying from the kid. The food was pretty good and a cute kid selling things typically would at least draw a small crowd. Maybe not exactly the best type of people all the time, but it would have gotten a little attention. Then again, the only reason Judai was even here was because he had missed his train. Maybe everyone was in too much of a rush?

The boy would smile as the man ate his snack. Good, a customer well served and a happy one at that. That always made the boy happy, serving a customer to the best of his ability. Why wouldn't he be delighted at that? It meant that he made someone happy with his services, and that made him happy in return.

"No... I actually accidentally took the wrong train... I usually go set up shop in a specific part of Sunlake Palms, but without my parents, I decided to just open up shop here." the boy would respond simply. He honestly didn't see the harm in sharing this information. It was the truth after all.

"Well, my family owns a bakery in Little Tokyo. We some times dress up in traditional Japanese clothing and make a little cart of some of our goods to spread the word of our bakery. We do not do it often, though. It takes up the entire day and we rarely make enough profits to make it worth the time." the boy would say with a gentle shrug. He honestly loved wearing the yukata and kimonos he had bought over time. He could wear them more often in Little Tokyo, but he didn't really see the necessity of doing so when everyone did it in Little Tokyo at night time for the festivities.

So it was a mistake that this little shop was here. Odd, but Judai was not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. "Huh, so you normally set up in the Palms. Weird, I guess I'll have to look you up sometime. I live down there." Judai took another bit of his snack and nodded. It would be nice to have an Asian styled bakery near by, even if it was just a small stand.

"Hahaha, that makes more sense. You certainly look like you belong in Little Tokyo."
Judai himself had stopped wearing Yukata a long time ago. He tended to avoid the clothes even when heading down to the festivals. He always felt a little odd in them, like he was at the age where he was too old to look cute in them, but too young to look distinguished like his father did.

"But I'm surprised that your parents let you run a stand like this by yourself." Judai finished off his Taiyaki and dusted his hands off the crumbs. "Isn't it hard to lug this thing and man it all without any help?"

The kid looked young. He couldn't be out of middle school. Not only was it hard for someone of his age to be selling things by himself, wasn't it dangerous. Criminal activity wasn't that bad in the city unless it was night time, but that still did not mean that people would not try stupid things.

He honestly seemed like a pleasant young man. That was good... His parents would be pleased with knowing he was with a safe and nice person while he was alone in the station. It also made him look like he was supposed to be there. With a light metal nod, he'd smile. This was okay now, mhm.

"A lot of people do... It is a really nice place to live." the boy would say with a happy smile. He loved how peaceful and quiet it was in Sunlake Palms... It was so different from the lively and exciting Little Tokyo, in the boy's opinion. Maybe if he lived somewhere like that, he could maybe play outside a little bit more than he did already... Also, they maybe could have a backyard... That would be cool!

"Is it the yukata? I like to wear them... But everyone does it in Little Tokyo, so it makes it feel a little less special, you know? I only wear them on special occasions and excursions now. It makes them feel special like they are supposed to!" he'd say with another of his happy smiles. He loved wearing the soft yukata. It made him feel fluffy, if that made sense. Aside from that, they were special and really nice, so it made sense for it to make him feel special and nice too!

"Oh, well, my parents do help. They usually talk to the customers for me and handle the money. They are also a lot more knowledgeable about the origin of the baked goods we sell... So, they are better at answering questions than I am. I just have the pull the cart, and it is not that heavy. It is lighter than it looks, honestly." the boy would say with a nod of his head. It was quite simple in terms how their cart worked... He was honestly there more so to look like a nice accessory, in his mind. But he didn't mind. He still got to do what he loved to do and that was all that counted.

"The yukata and the hat that you've got going there kind of point towards Little Tokyo." Judai pointed out with a little grin on his face. It was a little odd out here in the station, but most people would probably just assume the kid was either coming from or going to Little Tokyo. "Though I do get what you're saying about them not being special anymore. Saying that they're for festivals only kind of loses its point when there's a festival all the time." Judai shook his head at that. It was a little excessive to constantly have a festival. It made actual celebrations less impactful.

"Do a lot of people ask questions about baked goods?" Judai tilted his head at that explanation. He knew that some people were particularly picky about their food, but he thought that would be more about ingredients and nutrition values. His parents were always harking on him to pay more attention to what he ate, but he tended to mostly ignore it. He ate healthier than most people just from his life style, that was good enough for him. "You guys must get a lot of food nuts. I don't think I've ever really cared about the history of the food I eat. I mean, if it comes up on a tv show or a manga it's interesting, but to actually ask a baker about the origins of the muffins seems kind of out there."

"Well I guess it must be, or you're a lot stronger than you look." Judai gave the cart a once over. Maybe he was overthinking it. He knew how exhausting dragging something could be over the long term, but there was a big difference between dragging a tire along the ground and pulling a cart with wheels. He had a lot of experience with the former and almost no experience with the latter.

"But I can get the whole, helping the parents along thing. My dad is always on my case to help him out at the dojo. I help out with the kids classes in the afternoon." Judai shrugged lightly though his smile turned into a grimace at the end of the thought. Lately, martial arts was becoming more of a chore. He had been teaching more lessons lately and teaching was just a lot more tedious than learning and practicing. "Though he's been piling more and more work on me, lately."

The Difference a Second Makes (Open) Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Difference a Second Makes (Open)   The Difference a Second Makes (Open) EmptyWed Jul 20, 2016 6:08 pm

So he knew about the endless party at Little Tokyo? Oh, that was a surprise. Though, in actuality it really wasn't... That was kind of Little Tokyo's selling point, but for someone that never left the house, it was surprising to hear. Plus, he actually related to why the boy didn't wear yukata all the time. It was nice...

"Mhm... It is kind of sad that there is always a festival every day in Little Tokyo... It kind of makes everything seem less special there... That is why I like Sunlake Palms and East Eden so much... When events happen there, they're special! It is really nice." the boy said with a happy smile and nod of his head. He really loved the suburban buildings with there flowery paths and the open grass lands of East Eden. They were peaceful and happy and nice.

"We are an artisan bakery. So, we bake a lot of treats not a lot of people are familiar with. People get interested, so they ask us where they come from, how they are made, what they taste like... I am not the best at remembering all of this, so my parents do it. I do not really know what a 'food nut' is... But, if it is a name for people who are curious about food, then I suppose we have a lot of those." the boy would respond simply. He knew a lot about how their bakery worked and the process of what they did... But, trying to cram all the other stuff into his brain was so hard and it made him dizzy...

"You think I could be strong? I do not think so..." the boy would trail off. He was actually kind of weak compared to other kids his age. It made it hard to play with them in the way they wanted too... Like, playgrounds looked like so much fun! But he could only play on the slides and swings... Everything else was too hard.

"You work at a dojo? I heard those were fun. You learn how to fight there, right?" the boy asked with a light tilt of his head. That was something he may have to put forth interest in, actually... If he and Proxy couldn't learn any offensive moves... Maybe they should learn how to fight with their own hands...

"Really...? Hm... I do not find working for my parents very stressful or boring... I love it. Baking is one of my favorite things ever and I love to do it." the boy said with a nod of his head. He didn't relate to not having a bad time with his parent's work... But, he could try and understand.
