"Oh joy. Why does this happen to me? Why has my life lately seemed more and more like an anime? And when the hell can I get some actual answers?!?!?" Takeru thought as he headed down the hall.
You see, Takeru here was in a very awkward predicament. In his hand, he had accidentally grabbed one of Batilde's (one of the few people who could match him academically) notebooks when they had a class together (there was group work that day that they had to do together, and in the after-school rush, he had grabbed hers by accident.
She was also one of the prettiest girls in school, by pretty much any of the guys's standards.

And here he was, single, and wanting to talk to her (so that he could hand it back to her without anybody potentially making a big deal out of it). Now you take all of that out of context, and all of a sudden, the connotations change.
Either way, it sounded like something straight out of an anime.
Yeah, go figure.

"Welp, here goes nothing." Takeru said, arriving at the classroom where he had heard she was (he would've found her more quickly if it weren't for the fact he didn't want any potential funny rumors to start spreading, and thus, asked as few people as possible). He knocked on the door, and said:
"Excuse me, is there a Batilde Gagnon here? I'd have something i'd like to return to her." He said.

The door swung open a couple of seconds after he knocked on the door, standing face to face with a tall, black haired teenager of a rather lazy posture. "Oh, Yeah. She's in the back." He pointed to the blackhaired girl in the back of the classroom with his right thumb.

Batilde looked at the commotion happening over by the door with slight interest. Was it just someone from a neighbouring class asking for a friend to join 'em on lunch break or something? Sounded a bit odd for it to be anything else... but given the whispers from the other students, and the pointed thumb back at her, she started to doubt that theory... Aside from Liam and Brittany, there wasn't really anyone at school she knew well enough to eat lunch with... so she had no clue what this could be about.

"Thanks." Takeru said, heading over to the back. Reaching into his bag, he pulled out the notebook, trying his hardest not to blush and/or freak out now.
"Gotta keep it together, gotta keep it together...." Takeru thought.
"Well, I don't blame you. She's quite a looker." Twelve said.
"Not! Helping!" Takeru said mentally.
"Um... my name's Takeru Kagemaru. You forgot your notebook when the bell rang at the end of class, and I found it, so um... i'm here to return it to you." he said, nerves just about shot at this point.

"While you're at it, you may as well eat lunch with her. Your break only lasts so long, you know. Besides, isn't this your next class?" Twelve said.
"... grr... I hate it when you're right sometimes. Rub it in, why don't you?" Takeru growled mentally upon checking the time.

"Oh, and um... if you don't mind... mind if I eat lunch here?" Takeru asked her.
"... you know what. I give up. My life is now officially an anime." Takeru sighed mentally upon realizing his situation in resignation.
"Mmmm... resignation isn't usually your style, but some changes have to occur eventually." Twelve said. Takeru could only sigh mentally in response.

"Hoh?" Batilde raised her eyebrows when the guy walked up to her of all people. Well, that would explain the whispers if nothing else. "Oh! I've been looking everywhere for that!" Batlide replied to her schoolmate with a vibrant smile. Did she forget something...? "Oh, I almost forgot... Mercí, Takeru!" What a worldsaver. She had been panicking over that for a good 30 minutes interally before he showed up. Sure, she was calmer by the time he popped up, but it wasn't anything she was openly showing to begin with. She could hide her feelings very well in some instances. Now... his question left her a little bit stumped at first... Lunch? With her? Wasn't that...? Wait, was that a thing in America? Eating out with others was either a sign of friendship... or something else. But as stated, it could be different here, so... "L-Lunch...? With moi? Sure..." Batilde replied, still a bit bewildered by the request... no harm done so far, yes?

"Y-you're welcome." he said, bowing his head graciously while nervously laughing a bit.
Then he heard her response for the lunch thing.
"Oh. Thanks." He replied, sat down, and began to eat.

"Well. You should be celebrating, not being nervous as a bomb disposal squad member next to a nuclear warhead that's trying to disable said warhead!" Twelve said. "You're officially talking to one of the prettiest girls in the school, and she seems interested you. I'd call that a success, wouldn't you?" Twelve asked Takeru.
"NO! I mean, yes- AUGH! Why do you have to get me so riled up?!?!?" Takeru said mentally.
"What? For the most part, it's the truth, as far as I can see. Now go on. Make small talk... or something." Twelve said.
"Gee, my life really has become an anime, eh?" Takeru mused, and mentally sighed.
"I guess that means god is an otaku with a preference for action/romantic comedy, amongst other things...." Takeru said mentally.

"So... um... how are you doing?" Takeru asked her.
Twelve, at that point, did a mental facepalm.
"Hopeless. He's hopeless." Twelve said.
"HEY! This was YOUR idea!" Takeru snapped back mentally.

Batilde looked curiously at the stuttering from Takeru. "Um... Is something wrong, Takeru?" She asked, giving him a slightly worried look. Was it something she said or did that caused that? While Takeru sat down, Batilde opened up her own backpack, bringing out a small, cyan lunchbox with the words "Bon Appétit" handpainted on the lid. The contents was a neatly packed serving of spaghetti carbonara (Leftovers from yesterday's dinner). It looked quite expensive from the looks of it, given how neatly it was made...

"I'm doing okay. School is a bit frustrating, but alright. How about you?" That was a very... awkwardly asked question, but she'd roll with it for now, nomming away at her lunch gleefully.

"N-No..."Takeru said, mentally taking a deep breath.
"That's it now. Deep breath. Deep breath now." Twelve said.
"Yeah deep breath- HEY!" Takeru said mentally, upon realizing that was twelve.

He was able to relax once he heard her answer, though.
"Same." he said, also eating his lunch gently.
"Great. That's good. We think somewhat alike. Now I need another topic. What to say... oh!" Takeru thought upon seeing a cadet walk by the room.

"So, what do you think of the cadets? Do you plan on joining them? You seem like the type that might." He asked her.

Phew... She did nothing wrong, at least. But that stutter still lingered. Did she make him feel uneasy for some reason? After a bit of thinking on it, Batilde decided to not make a big fuss over it, as it was generally pretty harmless. The food itself was rather tasty too. Still kept most of it's freshness overnight, which was fine. Not quite as delicious as it would've been yesterday, but as a student, compromises had to be made. Besides, eating leftovers for lunch was considered normal, right?

When the topic of Cadets was brought up, Batilde raised her eyebrows. "The cadets? I guess they're alright, from what I've seen. I don't think I will be joining them anytime soon, however. I'm just here to study, not much else." Honestly, the thought of joining them hadn't even crossed her mind, and now that Takeru had brought it up, she realised just how... not interested she was in becoming one. Sure, the title of Cadet had it's benefits, but... was that really the kind of person she wanted to be?

"Hm. Alright. Personally, neither am I. I'm just here for about the same reasons you are: Knowledge." Takeru said, sighing.
"Okay... I'm doing well so far. Now to move on to step...uh... what was it? Four?" Takeru thought.
"Four." Twelve said.
"Got it." Takeru responded.
"So, um... beyond studying, do you enjoy doing anything else?" Takeru asked her.

"Hm? Well, I guess I do like to read a whole bunch... Not much else, really. I guess that's kind of boring, huh?" Batilde replied in a slightly joking manner. Books had basically been her passtime ever since childhood, seeing as she was mostly kept inside the manor back in Lyon. Although, she did like to try new things, especially now considering her newfound freedom. But as of right now, all she really did was getting control of her own life here first. Fitting in was a big thing for her, since she didn't want people thinking that she was weird, as much as it was true for the most part. Her inexperience with dealing with other people made her... quite difficult to deal with at times. She had no sense for personal boundaries or when she shouldn't be sticking her nose into other people's buissness. There was a place for her in Endymion... she had just yet to find it.

"No, no. To me, it's not. I myself am an avid reader. Have you read Dylan Thomas's 'The dying of The Light'? Good stuff. I read a lot of stuff. Mainly for enjoyment, and for inspiration." Takeru said, before doing a mental spit take at what he had just said.
"Great. Now she's gonna ask what for. Oh... geez. D'oh!" Takeru thought.

"You mean Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night? Yeah, I've read it. A Poem, right?" Batilde replied with a light chuckle. Sure, it had a different name in her native tongue, but she knew what he was talking about. A poem her father had taken quite the liking to, for reasons Batilde didn't get, nor cared for.

As for the whole inspiration thing... It caught her interest, so this time around, it was Batilde's turn to ask something. "Inspiration...? What for?" What kind of inspiration did a guy like Takeru need? He was still a student, no? Was he a writer? Painter? Or something else? Well, she was about to find out... hopefully the answer was harmless enough.

"Yes. It is." Takeru said, nodding. He mainly liked it for how it showed that, even in the face of insurmountable odds, humanity will keep fighting them, and simply not just surrender and resign themselves to their fate.

And then for a brief second, he thought she might not have noticed his slip of the tongue.

That is, until she asked that question.
"Writing. And between you and me... my main specialty is poetry, but i'm a jack-of-all trades when it comes to sub-genre." He said.

"Oh, you write poetry?" Batilde asked, suddenly a bit more intrigued. This she just had to hear. Students her age being interested in poetry was already rare... and now she was talking to someone actually writing his own stuff. She couldn't let this chance slip by! Personal space be damned, she had to hear this.

"Oh... dammit. I've really done it now..." Takeru thought.
"Mmm... you could've just passed it of as nothing. Instead, you said exactly what you didn't want to. My, are you this much of a sucker for a pretty face?" Twelve snarked. "At this rate, women are going to be the death of you." He added.
"Shut. Up." Takeru said mentally. At this point, he had a feeling how this conversation was going to go, and decided to take a chance.

"Yes. Yes I do. I actually have one of my collections here with me right now, completely full of original material. Would you like to see?" he asked her.

"Hmph. I assume then, your plan is to stop delaying the inevitable, and charge in?" Twelve asked Takeru.
"Yup. I'm this far in now. No point in trying to stop now." Takeru mentally replied.
