**ALERT!** After a rather eventful evening at Maksim's Party, three teenagers seems to have gone missing. The doors of Vault Olympia have been breached due to a to this day unknown assailant, who sabotaged the doors locking systems, allowing demons to make entry. Thanks to the excellent defensive capabilities of the Vault's Security drones, the Attack was put to an end, and the invading monsters fled to the outside. Right now, the Doors of Vault Olympia are currently open, allowing any survivors of the fall to seek shelter within the Vault's safe halls. What Vault Security officials think of this development remains unclear as the Chief of Police and Security of Olympia refused to leave a comment. This is Rianara, of Olympia news, signing out.

The site is entering a new era as our team of mods works tirelessly on updating old and obsolete information threads and links. Over the Summer, we aim to make many changes to the forum, including writing a comprehensive beginners' guide to help new players accommodate to the combat and other rp systems in place here.

Framing One's Focus [Bat] Empty
PostSubject: Framing One's Focus [Bat]   Framing One's Focus [Bat] EmptyFri May 06, 2016 4:07 am

Derrick pushed his sunglasses a bit higher on the bridge of his nose as he looked around the four way stop, checking for cars or errant bikes. Seeing the coast was clear, he hurried across the sidewalk, eager to continue forwards.

School began in a few days. For some, classes had already begun. He couldn't say he was particularly sorry about that turn of events. With most people attending to their studies, the streets were almost completely barren. On top of that, it lowered the risk of him being disturbed throughout his outing.

He'd intended to go through this neighborhood and to a spot he enjoyed visiting on days like today. But as he turned down a street a particular house caught his eye and made him backtrack.

New owners had come in, he knew. There'd been a FOR SALE sign out front but it was gone now. On top of that, the house had been painted a sickly yellow; not exactly bad too look at, just weakened and pale and not at all the usual sunshine shade most people thought of. Now it was a dreamsicle, a striking orange, and the front flowerbeds that had been barren were now filled with brightly colored flowers. The decor was bright and balanced, but it was the colors that made him pause.

After a moment of deliberation, Derrick carefully dug into his messenger bag and pulled out a camera. He leaned his cane against the fence and, once certain it wouldn't fall down, turned the camera on and let it start up. In less than a minute the display lit up, signaling it was ready to operate. Tilting his glasses down, Derrick began to adjust the settings, taking periodic peeks at the screen to make sure he was getting the desired saturation and settings for his shots.

Framing One's Focus [Bat] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Framing One's Focus [Bat]   Framing One's Focus [Bat] EmptyFri May 06, 2016 9:06 am

The move over from France to Endymion had been a very stressful event for Batilde, and rightfully so, since she had done all the planning, packing and everything else by herself in an attempt to display independence from her parents. Everything was in order, and the transferral over to Seven Stars Academy had gone pretty much flawlessly, much to her own delight. Batilde had been planning this for months on end in meticulous detail to make sure that nothing went wrong. She had gotten a couple of days off from school, if only for her to truly get accustomed to the new locales and all that. And indeed, she did have some troubles with that at first. Speaking English wasn't a problem, really, but it was the accent. For some reason, the french undertones in her speech got people nervous (or so she'd like to think anyway), and thus asking for directions wasn't very easy. So, on her first day here in Endymion, of course she'd end up getting lost. So much for everything going perfect...

The girl dragged her trunk behind her, as she slowly but surely made her way around in Sunlake Palms. Of course, this wasn't where she was going to live. Sure, she could've taken a cab but... just this once, she felt like walking. After all those hours on the airplane, she wanted to stretch her legs a bit, so a walk to her new home didn't seem like such a bad idea... at the time anyway. Now she regretted her decision wholeheartedly, but she kept going anyway.

The streets were quite lifeless and empty at this time of the day anyway, so there wasn't like there was people around that she could ask for directions... except one. A boy, busy photographing a strikingly orange house. Honestly, she didn't wish to disturb him in whatever he was doing, but what choice did she have...?

Framing One's Focus [Bat] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Framing One's Focus [Bat]   Framing One's Focus [Bat] EmptyFri May 06, 2016 12:41 pm

He heard someone coming. Footsteps and the distinct clattering of a bag rolling down the street coming from behind him. Sighing inaudibly, Derrick lowered his camera and stepped closer to the fence, looking back and trying to pinpoint where the person was on the sidewalk. Hopefully they'd be considerate and not knock into him. His camera wasn't that new, but he'd still hate to drop it just because a person couldn't show a little decency.

Now, Derrick wasn't very proficient in languages (he'd been taught a handful of Spanish words when he was a kid), but he could tell that this girl was starting to speak one of the romance languages, at least. It was a relief to hear her switch over to English, although that heavy accent stayed there.

The boy thought for a moment, holding his camera with one hand and resting the other on his chin in thought. East Eden...he knew the way, but trying to figure out the most direct route for a normal person was a little different. "It's not too far." He said after a few seconds. He pointed almost lazily over his shoulder, towards the direction the girl was heading. "Go down this street for three blocks. Take a left, then a right, then a left. There's a big sign there so you'll know the second you reach that district."

Framing One's Focus [Bat] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Framing One's Focus [Bat]   Framing One's Focus [Bat] EmptyFri May 06, 2016 1:08 pm

"Oh. Thank you very much!" Batilde responded with a relieved smile. At least she was on the right way now. She took a quick glance at the watch on her wrist. She still had plenty of time left before she was supposed to arrive at the appartment, and getting her keys, and she couldn't just sit outside the apartment for the next four hours if it was as close as this young man had told her. So... why not spend some time here first? She had already approached him, after all, so now was as good of a time as any to get to know someone around here. "Are you a photographer?" She asked him, somewhat awkwardly. Sure, it had been her idea to actually engage in a conversation with him... but she felt very insecure about it. Just... talking with people she had just met was hard, but as her uncle always told her: You won't get over your issues unless you tackle them head on. And that's what she did right now, even as uncomfortable as it made her feel. Her discomfort with all this would of course show outwardly, but the reason why remained hidden from Derrick.

Framing One's Focus [Bat] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Framing One's Focus [Bat]   Framing One's Focus [Bat] EmptyFri May 06, 2016 5:12 pm

A conversation was not what he was expecting. Rather, he'd been eager to avoid one, considering how most of the streets were empty and he should be able to focus on his hobby in peace. But he could hardly shoo the woman away now; after all, that would be rude. Lowering his pointing hand back to his camera, Derrick shook his head succinctly. "No. It's just a hobby."

For a moment, he wondered why in the world this woman was talking to him. Was she interested in what he was doing? Was it his age? Or was she one of those people? ...Hm, probably not the last one. She hadn't mentioned anything about the cane yet nor seen him walk. Still, it was strange, considering how awkward she was. He might even call it frightened, in a way. "...Even if I wanted to hurt you, I'm clearly at a disadvantage." He spoke up suddenly, accompanied by a meaningful glance at the girl's height. The words seemed almost joking, but both his face and tone were terribly deadpan, almost comically so. "You don't have to be so worried." That said, he turned to the house once more and adjusted the settings briefly before propping his glasses up on his forehead and snapping a few pictures of the house. A small frown came across his face as he reviewed the shots. Too much contrast in these. He'd have to turn that down a little. He reopened the settings on the camera again, fiddling with the buttons.

Framing One's Focus [Bat] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Framing One's Focus [Bat]   Framing One's Focus [Bat] EmptySat May 07, 2016 9:23 am

"Ah, I see." Batilde replied with a smile, before she cast a curious glance at the Camera. She did wish to see some photos, and while it may not be the most socially acceptible thing to ask, she did so anyway. "Um... Mind showing me some of your photographs? Jolie s'il-vous-plaît? Pretty please?"

What...? Hurt? How did he get to that conclusion? "Oh, no. That's not why I'm... Nervous." Batilde replied with an awkward, yet excusing smile. "...I'm just not used to... socializing... I guess. Overprotective parents, and all that. Ehehe..." The girl scratched the back of her neck, avoiding eyecontact with the boy. She really didn't want to explain everything to him, but hopefully he got the full picture. "I'm just trying to get over this, that's all..." Hence why she had approached him in the first place. Well, that wasn't the entire reason, but it a big chunk of her reasons for talking to the guy. His words did calm her down a little bit though, but not for the reasons he might think. As he took his pictures, Batilde stood by and just watched him do his thing, with a curious look. Once he was done photographing, she opened her mouth once again to speak. "...um... What's your name?" That must've come out of nowhere, and she didn't even think of introducing herself first. A typical "Batilde"-like thing to do in a situation like this.

PostSubject: Re: Framing One's Focus [Bat]   Framing One's Focus [Bat] EmptySun May 08, 2016 2:28 am

"I don't see why not." He shrugged lightly, more focused on his camera than her at the moment. She would most likely stick around; his patience with his camera, however, would not, so he'd rather get his desired shots and continue on with his day.

To be honest, he tuned out most of what she said after his statement. He was too focused on his end of things to worry too much about her. He caught a few snippets here and there, though, so he had a vague-ish idea of why she approached him. So basically she was pushing herself to spite her parents? He couldn't see the sense in it and, honestly, the thought of being so immature that she'd stoop to that was a bit irksome. Yet the years he'd spent trying to learn some kind of social etiquette paid off and he managed to hold his tongue for now as he fixed the settings and tried to get a couple of photos that were to his liking.

"Usually the person who initiates the conversation will introduce themselves first." he said idly between shots, occasionally pulling the camera back to study the display before nodding and returning to photographing the house. Yet after he stepped a few feet away for a slightly different angle, he supplied a simple, "Derrick. And you?"

"Ah, thank you!" Batilde replied with a light smile, taking a glance at the pictures on the small screen. Not bad at all. She could see right from how these pictures were taken that he had put a lot of effort when taking each photograph. "Ils sont magnifiques! Really good!" She'd then take a step backwards, giving him some space.

"O-Oh... I'm sorry..." Batilde said with an apologetic look on her face. Ugh... Why did this have to be so... complicated for? Sure, she knew her stuff in the academical field, but when it came down to the social plane, she was almost still like a child... Ignorant on social standards and all that, which posed numerous problems for the girl, and she more often than not felt bad for her social ineptitude, and hence why she normally avoided these social situations as a result. But she couldn't dodge them forever, now could she? Of course, she could've been way harsher with the young man, like how she treated most of her peers in school, but... she just couldn't treat a young man like him the same way. He was way too short to be remotely close to her age... unless he was a kind of midget, which could be possible, and if so, she would've made a really bad assumption. Hopefully it didn't turn out to be that way.

"Oh. Nice to meet you, Derrick. I'm Batilde. As you can probably tell, I'm from france." Given her accent, and spontaneous french phrases prolly had given that away already, but one could never be sure.

France, huh? Well, he'd gotten his romance language guess correct, then. letting his camera drop from his face, Derrick turned his head towards her in order to see her properly as he nodded once. "A pleasure." he said succinctly. A moment later he raised the camera back up again, took about three shots, then turned off the camera. As he was placing it in his messenger bag, he commented offhandedly, "I'm surprised you'd leave there for here. Endymion isn't really anything special." Well, strictly speaking, there was that, but it was hardly seen as anything good. On the contrary, most people tended to shy away from the city for that reason; most of the time he saw new faces were just people who were too curious for their own good.

Crossing carefully back to the girl--Batilde--he reached out to the fence and picked up his cane. He rested his hand over the top of it, allowing the cane to stand at its full height (which was just above his shoulder), and placed his sunglasses back onto his face. "I trust you still remember the directions I gave you?"

Framing One's Focus [Bat] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Framing One's Focus [Bat]   Framing One's Focus [Bat] EmptyWed May 11, 2016 1:38 pm

Batilde chuckled lightly at his words. "Well, I wanted to study abroad for the last couple of school-years that I have, so Seven Stars seemed like the perfect place for me." Not that the notion of studying again paticularly excited her, but it was better than sitting and staring at the walls of her apartment all day, that's for sure. "I guess I could've picked someplace else, sure, but there's just something about this city that has interested me for a while now." Maybe it was just the city's large emphasis on technology that had dragged her here. Not that it truly mattered much to her in the end. She was here now, and that's all that mattered to her.

"Mhm!" Batilde replied with a quick nod, her voice quite cheerful. "Thanks for the help, Derrick." So, he needed a cane to walk around? Well, not that it necessarily lessened her opinion of him. Besides, he looked like he could handle himself pretty well.

"...You thought Seven Stars was a good place to go abroad?"

He tried to be mature and responsible, maybe even a bit questioning, but his voice was thickly coated in disbelief. True, Seven Stars attracted a wide group of people, but they were all government inclined. Paperwork, places of authority, and for the asinine a spot as cannon fodder on the cadet team. It was not, in his opinion, where one went to be more culturally diverse or expand their horizons.

Shrugging off the thought, Derrick immediately moved on to the next piece of business, giving Batilde a short nod at her confirmation. Good, she hadn't forgotten. He gave her a slight smile. "Excellent. As for me, I think I should be leaving now. Good luck in your new home." Adjusting his grip on the cane to a more proper stance, he gave the girl a slight wave as he turned and began walking dow the street, swiping his cane across the ground as he walked.

"Well, the students are rather successful, no? I'm just here to learn." She said with a light shrug. Sure, there were probably better institutions for that, but really, this was something she wanted to do on her own.

"Mercí, Derrick!" Batilde replied with a smile towards the young man, as he left the area. Now then... Time to actually find East Eden. The girl followed Derrick's directions and sure enough, she would eventually find herself outside her new home... There was some basic furniture in there already, which would have to do until she got the time to upgrade all of her stuff in there. It wasn't the money that was the issue. The issue had always been finding time for that when studies were involved...
