| Just wondering if anyone here plays role playing games on the tabeltop as well as the desktop, and if so what games have you played? I've sampled lots of different systems in one-shots with my friends (World of Darkness, Dark Sun, ect.) The only ones that stuck for a full campaign were a year-long game of FATE (my favorite system) and D&D 4th (which I dropped out of pretty fast; D20's just not my thing). Some other friends and I also did a few months in the Bizenghast system of all things, which is surprisingly solid. I've also done lots of one-shots in the mystery-focused Trail of Cthulhu system, with an additional flavor of The Secret World mmo sprinkled on top for flavor.
My fav game I've done so far was the FATE game I ran for some friends, which took place in a Lovecraftian Louisianna in which the players were gangster bootleggers trying to keep control of their city from falling to an evil cult, fighting oozey otherworldly monsters, outwitting the cops, and still trying to turn a profit all the while. The best moment was definitely the last session, when they were eventually summoned before Baron Samedi (an avatar of Nyarlathotep) to argue against the witchdoctor Dan and his associates for why the players would make better servants than the cult. Because FATE can run social conflict just like normal combat (tracking ones standing in the argument as health, and using skills like Wits, Charm, or Deception to attack/defend with instead of Melee and Agility) this was actually a pretty epic boss battle even though not a single punch was thrown. The players (and myself, once they started getting really tricksy) had to think outside the box on how to use their character's skills to get ahead in the conflict.
What are other people's: Roleplaying background Favorite system, if any Highlight roleplaying moments
